What happens next when the queen is gone?

Posted by: Tonepub on 08 July 2010

Just curious, as an outsider that doesn't understand what goes into to succession, who will be the next monarch there when the Queen is no more?

Is it an established path, or is any of it up to choice?

If the government are looking to save a few more quid, disbanding the monarcy and selling Buck House for a Hotel, could be on the cards.

Could be a William/Harry coalition.

It depends how she goes…

wishful thinking but we could have a Republic and an end to Little Britain’s stuck-up nonsensical class ridden structure of repetitive inherited elitism.

Get rid of the lot of them and make them do an honest days work like the rest of us. Not sure what that bunch of waisters could contribute though.

The role the monarchy play in politics is diminishing and therefore getting dangerous.

The monarchy have no loyalty than to themselves and then their subjects.

An elected president, senate/house-of-lords in addition to the house of commons would just lead to the politics of the rich and greedy.

US politics is mired in corporate backed interest groups. Business comes first, welfare of the populace comes last. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

The monarch as the constitutional head of state should have the role to stop the potential of four yearly bouncing from left-wing to right-wing politics which only benefits politicians.

It is an established path and choice has nothing to do with it. The 'divine right of Kings' is the oldest example of preferential genealogy.

The Queen is Dead, Long Live the [Queen|King].

Great idea.

If that did happen those of us living in the UK could then become citizens as opposed to subjects, and would therefore have guaranteed rights as opposed to granted rights, which we can not challenge.

I remember as a youngster in primary school in the 60s being taught "The Divine Right of Kings" as if it was some sort of fact. At least we've moved on from that. Hopefully once Ms Windsor's gone we'll take an objective look at the whole farce and realise there's no place for such a mediaeval establishment in the 21st century. I won't hold my breath though. And when I see the response, "Well what's the alternative?" I think it would be nice to put that question to the people.

Stuff her with horse hair and prop her up in that big chair at the front of the room. The monarchists keep their symbol, but you don't have to pay her. Everyone wins.

I think the Crown brings in a lot more £ than it costs.
Posted on: 12 July 2010 by Sniper
I agree with Mike on the costs issue. This has been looked into and confirmed many times but idiots will always believe what they want to believe and sod the facts eh? The queen has never put a foot wrong in long years of service. I have enormous respect for her. I dont think Charles will ever be king - he will abdicate in favour of Prince William - I think thats the only way he was ever allowed to marry Camilla. The deal has already been done.
