Be thankful to be in the UK...I needed a new 48 pager after filling my previous one whilst out here and the Brit embassy charged me at least DOUBLE that...!

why, they have a great many places to put your details.....and picture!....and that takes lots and lots of time and your/our money! To wit I have just found out that those photo cards on your driving license need to be renewed every ten year so I'm wondering how much that will cost me!

These replies have cheered me up. Plus I've convinced my boss that as Director of an Art Gallery I may have to travel abroad at a moments notice. Result! One expenses claim later...

I can't see the problem with it V. £70 must equate to less than a man hour of time. I'm sure it takes that.
I work in the private sector, but worked for years for government. Two myths (in my field exist) 1-All civil servants are useless, lazy and work 30hr weeks 2-All private sector workers are good, hard working, earn a fortune and work 60hr weeks. Neither is true.

I agree I work in the private sector and made to feel quite useless - so I think I prove your point.quote:Originally posted by Mat Cork:

I only held a few jobs for companies, all supervisors were gripers. Gripe about this, gripe about that. None seemed to like me. Yet going back a couple years later they were friendly and missed my expertise, but my work mates all missed me terribly as I kept things light and lively, tho none of them ever had the power to hire me back.
Going back to a nursery I'd used when a gardener a friend behind the counter said "I don't know what you did to those women!" He had one come in and ask if I was back in town, "no he's not" another woman said I'd been her gardener too and they raved so much 2 other women were asking for my number. He'd NEVER heard women exclaim so wildly about a gardener, usually quite the opposite, but dayam, I couldn't get another $20 for a flat of flowers from them. That was only a $5 profit in my pocket.

I tend to try to be very attentive to civil servants and make eye contact to hold their attention. Making their life a little easier gets pretty good results.
When my father was having his surgery last summer my sister made friends with all the nurses, girl talk. He got great care, too bad he didn't remember them afterward, several were cute.

By the way has anyone checked to see if their photo driving licence is due for renewal. 4b on the front tells renawal date (only lasts for ten years after all)?
Posted on: 31 March 2009 by Bob McC
And it is going up to £20 to renew imminently!

Perhaps your local MP can claim one for you?
