Anyone have an e-copy of FLASH manual, please?

Posted by: Rico on 25 May 2002

if so please e-mail it to me, or post it here.

I checked the Naim website - none there (amongst all the others).

10 points to Naim for getting the manuals on to the website in electronic form - well done. smile

about a week ago I took this...

.... and made it in to one of these, with some cash (thanks loving spouse and crazy bank manager!), and the help of my friendly Naim dealer (repect, Mr Murphy!)...

As you might expect, I am a very happy man. I thought I'd post it here on this thread rather than on a new one, lest we spot a trend that could be named "oh no not another bloody CDSII thread!".

Wanna read some of my listening notes?

Brief listening notes CDSII:
  • Multi-layering by the bucket-load.
  • Subtlety more subtle than a subtle thing.
  • More tonal colour (I’m usually pretty immune to this).
  • Rhythm greatly improved… easier to follow complex time-signatures
  • Synthesisers sound more meaty, great growly grumbly sounds that previously sounded a little thin.
  • Less up-front and in-yer-face… the fire-alarm in the background of Heat Miser on Massive Attack’s “protection” is a great example.
  • Strings sound more like strings.
  • This thing really swings. Enough to surprise any die-harp LP12 devotee.
  • Grooves like an absolute bastard.

All these using the CDX/XPS as the reference - apart from the last two, which are valid as a source against all sources.

If thats not enough to convince you to have a listen (you might think you can't afford it - it will eloquently tell you why you can't afford to live without it)... you should be surprised unless you're tending toward granite construction.

I could ramble on for hours about it, but I'm too busy listening to it run in. Fabulous. Thank you for building a CD player so good that one would rather sit and listen to music than... well, almost anything else, really! cool

CDSII Magic

Congratulations Rico!

One question, though.

All the improvements, aren't these just suggestion? Are you sure you can hear all that with the volume turned down to zero?

I couldn’t help but notice the remarkable change in output, from the CDX to the the CDSII, on your pictures…

not one to miss a trick eh Herm? wink I guess I should have posed a "Spinal Tap moment" with the volume dial before photographing.

Ahhh dear, I note some defensiveness present in the LP12 camp, James! I hadn't suggested it eclipsed the venerable LP12... just that it sounded better than the CDX/XPS, and a few tings were good enough to measure up to any source. 'looking forward to your musings on my amusing workshop meanderings. smile

There's a fire alarm in the background of Heat Miser on Massive Attack's "Protection"?

7Hz I think. I dare you to play track 7 (Kylma Massa) on Pan Sonics 'Kulma' and still come up smelling of roses!
