Rough Trade Al*** Club

What are patrons opinions of the Rough Trade Album Club?

Is it worth buying a subscription as a present for a friend ( or indeed suggesting a subscription as a present).

How many of Rough Trades Albums of the year were actually Album Club albums?

Hi Sloop

When I first heard about The Album Club I have to say I was a bit snooty about it as I thought I didn't need anyone else to tell me what albums to buy and get effectively charged for the privilege.

Last Christmas I bought some stuff from Rough Trade which resulted in me getting 2 months free subscription and I have now been a member for about a year.

I only have the one CD option at £12 per month and can honestly say that I haven't been disappointed with any of the CDs sent to me and that some of them I wouldn't have discovered otherwise or at least not until considerably later. In addition to the main release you often get an RT exclusive disc with extra tracks unavailable elsewhere.

I think about 11 of the Rough Trade Top 50 were first choice Album Club offerings with 3 in the Top 10.

Maybe I'm just lucky that I seem to have similar tastes to Rough Trade but I would definitely recommend it. You also have the rather warm feeling that you are helping to support a very worthy independant record store!

Sloop,

I'm a member and can recommend it for the reasons Steeve has mentioned though I cannot say I've liked all the releases I have recieved but the ones I have liked are of genre's that I would not normally have looked at. I use it to throw a musical curve ball in my direction and I've decovered some great music.

This months release in particular.
