"One" and other recent Beatles vinyl purchases

Groovers

Yesterday I picked up the "One" album, Rubber Soul and Yellow Submarine ( Songtrack ).

In short, if you are a fan and do not yet own them two out of three sound very good - the exception being Rubber Soul - its not remastered or anything, just a new copy. I have yet to be able to play it at decent levels, but it does not sounds as good as the other two.

Both YS (S) and "One" sound fantastic, (and are still available on catalogue) and before YS (S) is dismissed, it is NOT the same as the original album with three "Sea of..." fillers, but has the decent tracks on it; fifteen tracks in all, vs. 13 originally. The remastering seems to have been done very well and the album finally lasts as long as an album should. I actually find it mildly disturbing that music approaching 40 years old still sounds so good.

Feeling very pleased with myself today. Two out of three highly recommended.

Regards

Mike

"One" uses the more recent re-mastering which makes a lot of very familiar songs sound - different. Great songs, just slightly different. Am I imagining this? My copy is the double LP.

Yeah I have One for myself and Yellow submarine went to my niece for Christmas, both on CD tho. I tried it out of course and it really has been nicely remastered. Thinking of getting it for myself. But when I get a DVD player I know I'll go looking for YS to watch the fun. A couple years ago when the newly remastered film came out I saw it at a funky theater and it was a spiritual experience for one and all. Just a little peak into a different time and so welcomed. A unique event.

Mike I was thinking as I was driving the other day about your comment that Rubber Soul doesn't sound as good at the others. One reason for it's strange quality is that they were leading the pack back in the 60s and always doing something different. Most of the recording had gotten very blown up and over done, they tried to go the other way and recorded RS flat. comment from people was that they had gone "folky", a period that had just recently passed away with Dylan going electric. I have RS as a stereo vinyl and it does sound underdone, but that is what they wanted, a folk sounding album. Clean and simple!
