Just got the album today: quite remarkable.
Just occasionally in life you encounter something for the first time that you know will go with you till the end.
Awesome!

I had better give it another spin then. Did not really grab me first time.

Lontano, only my opinion, of course. But I'd think that it deserves a second play.
Those boys are seriously good at what they do. Grohl's back where he was meant to be, on the drumstool. LZ's most talented musician provides the bass and, I assume, keyboards. And that young chap, of whom I'd never heard previously, is a pretty good axeman.

I watched the broadcast of their Reading (edited highlights) on the BBC. It sounded like Queens of the Stone Age to me. Lots of good playing, but no melodies to hold the songs together.
It is a great rhythm section, just lacking in the rest of the band for me.
Do those who like the album like Josh Homme's other music?
Trying to find a yardstick to judge the band by.

Just had a listen. Not for me, even though I'm a fan of JPJ.

Just watched them on the JR Show. Was going to order this but I think I've changed my mind.

Steve.

I appear to be very much in a minority here, but I really, really like them.
Any of you chaps prepared to have another listen?

Rather listen to the real macoy - ZEPP!!

Graham,
I'll listen again, for sure. It was my initial impulse to buy the CD based on their respective previous bodies of work that has vanished.
regards,
Steve.

Sorry Graham, got 4 tickets and about 15 people wanting the other 3 - as you can see when I originally posted back in September the tour was quite hush hush so got my tickets nice 'n early. They were going for not massive sums on eBay a week or so ago though if that helps.

I went up to my dealer in London on Friday with my brand new electrostatic loudspeakers, accompanied by the man who made them for me. We hooked them up to a 555/552/500 system and then let rip with'Dead End Friends': truly awesome sounds emerged!

Just listened to them on Woss( shame he couldn't research how to pronounce Josh's surname).
They sounded OK , nothing stand out for me, I'll listen on Spotify next.

I will listen again later to this album. Going to play it loud. I think the thing for me about this group is that I love to watch Dave Grohl drum, but all the time I think he would be a far better front man than Josh Homme who to me comes across as very ordinary.
Posted on: 06 December 2009 by BigH47
Well I didn't make it passed track 9 seemed very ordinary, no group hook, played well enough , ultimately that is not enough.

I quite like what I've heard by TCV and I've always cited the Vulture as my favourite winged, bipedal, endothermic, vertebrate.
I often, well sometimes, well very occasionally, okay never, wondered what became of Led Zep's John Paul Jones and now that mystery is solved - alive and well and playing bass, keyboard, piano, keytar, slide guitar and mandolin for TCV.

And playing f*cking loud, which is how the album has to be heard.
Can never get past track 4, which is (to my ears) sublime, if awfully loud.

if you like the work Josh homme does then you'd like it. Otherwise it just is an ego trip of an album and dull
