Is my Headline damaged?
Posted by: mfidelity on 29 December 2003
I just purchased a s/h Headline (olive) + NAPSC PS. I have the Headline connected to the 112 tape socket. At "0" volume I get music from the left channel only - as I increase volume I get music in both channels at it seems to be properly balanced when I reach 12 o'clock on the Headline. After 12 o'clock both channels appear to increase in volume.
Is the unit damaged or is this how a Headline is designed to function?
Thanks,
Dave

It looks like it has a problem. The Volume pot is mistracking. Send it for repair.

Thanks. It appears to be working fine now that it is warmed up. The unit was pretty cold when I hooked it up. If the problem resurfaces i'll know what I need to do.

If you mean cold literally: coming from outside "cold and wet", it is quite normal.
What you can do is turning the volume pot up and down many times, it will clean the tracks.

Hi, I also have a "pre-used" H/L with exactly the same "problem" I contacted Naim and they said they knew the H/L displayed this charactaristic but it was nothing to worry about. It has been "cured" on the latest one. Also I found that the volume knob was rather wobbly, also a charactaristic apparently.
Still sounds good though!!!

The problem is getting worse so it'll have to go to NANA for repair.
