Speed Limit Increased

Posted by: wellyspyder on 27 April 2006

That is right, speed limit raised because too many tickets were being issued Smile, on a local stretch of road between rural and urban developement.

I'd kid you not, locals are annoyed they were not consulted about this increase!

Here, here, here.

Safety, yes.
Sorry for mistake in meaning.
Motorists here do have to know that i have nothing against cars and everybody is free to choose it's hobby.
I don't spend money in cars because i do consider them a waste of money.
But this is only my opinion.
We should consider the matter for the common good.
I see it in such way and not as a kind of punishment.
Decrease power should be taken as a decrement in crashes' risk and stress in driving.
I've spent 5 years driving my car on motorways as an agent and had a BMW 318is.
Sometimes 500/600 klms per day.
Never had an accident.
Now i drive a Clio 1.2 and even if i drive very carefully i feel the stress of moving between a lot of people who don't care at all about good driving rules, safety and limits.
In my way of seeing the things maybe we could save a lot of lifes and money to dedicate to higher purposes.

You are not alone with regards to this.

On another issue, I find that despite the price of fuel steadily increasing, motorist seem still "hell bent" on drag racing between sets of lights 200 to 300 metres apart. Pity they have less sence and also less money......

Mick,

You are wrong, very wrong - especially the bit about being without influence. As for being dull, that's a matter of opinion.

It is my opinion that you are dull in a grey fuddy-duddy kind of way.

Andy,

My advice is to take no notice of Mick. He's rather wide of the mark to suggest we argue anyway.

Re. rubbernecking, it doesn't seem to happen in Germany. I've driven past the odd crash site on the other carriageway at over 100mph and quite legally. I was aware of the crash due to my proven peripheral vision Winker

Gosh, garyi,

you are sooo nice.

And so kind to note you have read said articles.

Mr Toy did not prevent the increase going ahead, he protested loudly and publically as usual and achieved nothing as usual. Councillor Danny Davies totally ignored him proving Mr Toy is only good for wailing about injustices but never any good at preventing them.

My point to Andy is that he is spending mega hours arguing this topic with a bunch of equally ineffective losers both here and on PFM.

The vehicle laws are not going to change, despite what they think and he is wasting his time dealing with them.

As regards to me being dull, then fair enough, but during the last 7 days I have had 3 good meals with friends in 3 good restaurants, I have taken my first guitar lesson and kick started up my 1959 BSA and went for a ride on it. I also concluded an energy deal worth half a billion pounds.

Now how many beef burgers have you cooked this week.

BTW Congratulations on the baby, that will keep you busy for a few years to come.

Regards

Mick

Something tells me that the less they can push on accelerator the more aggressive they get.
But, again, it's only a matter of brain.
Few days ago, here in Italy, a Ferrari owner destroied an entire family with his "missile".
Some should be tested by a psychologist before get the licence.

Mick

I think you need to follow your own advice and not get drawn any further into this 'debate'.

BTW, some pics of your bike (in another thread) would be good. Didn't you used to own another British classic bike in the recent past. I vaguely remember some mention of a Sunbeam.

Yet again you fail to read carefully what is written. Read the paragraph pertaining to fare increases. My issue with the council was the contrasting fee increases with fares that had been frozen for two years. The council have indeed increased the fees but we drivers also get a fare rise into the bargain that reflects that in fees (works out at an just an extra £15 a year per owner-driver for his vehicle plate and badge, so not really worth complaining about on its own) as well as the 28% rise in the cost of fuel.

My objective has been achieved, so until you learn sustained reading of a body of text with more than 100 words, go away.

Mick,

One thing I will say is there is a time to be 'to the point', and a time not to be.

Whilst I admit your posing style is impactive, it's also not sometimes condusive to getting your point accross, due to the communication style you use.

But hey, what do I know?

Oh, and I don't often eat beef - it can remain in your colon for up to eight weeks, you know. Chicken and fish is my preferance... As are Honda motorcycles. Winker

Assume nothing from anyone who posts here Is my motto.

Andy

I offer you advice on how not to become a mega bore like Steven Toy and whilst you seem to accept the point, you criticise my style.

If being blunt is what it takes to prevent two Steven Toys clogging up this forum, then blunt I will be.

There is still hope for you yet.

Regards

Mick

Mick,

I suggest that only you are bored, for threads I start usually generate many responses as well as hits. If you are bored, fine. There are other channels on the telly.

Do me the pleasure of viewing something else if what you find here is of no interest to you.

I do, however, believe that you use this opportunity to derive considerable satisfaction in being a pompous old windbag telling the world I'm boring.

Don't worry Steve.
Some people think they can decide for the rest of the world with a very clear consideration of their own skills in discernment.

Ps: "pompous old windbag"?
Goin to keep it for my boss!

Thankfully my mates (all 2 of em LOL) don't think I'm boring. Still, they don't do what I do, they work for a living.

I posted sometime ago good advice from my long gone gran - "don't voice an opinion in public unless you are prepaired to accept opinions in return".

You will also note I don't often attack individuals, or am directly insulting to individual who, basically, I don't know.

Something like 'do to others as you wuold have them do to you...'

I accept you advice - doesn't mean I concur totally with your comments. But in the context of an internet forum conversation with someone who I don't know, I think this fair enough.

Anyway - this boring fart is getting a visitor from Chesterfield in a bit, any idea who? Winker

1st question - Yup!

re the above, you know what I'd say to that - 2 wrongs... and all that... I see enough gobbing off, bickering and bad feeling whilst at work..don't need it at home!

Mr Toy

I am not bored but I admit I am in a filthy mood. I have just spent the entire afternoon calculating my tax returns and the amount I have to pay has really cheesed me off.

Never the less I take your point that I am wasting my time talking to dullards, my time would be more productively spent talking to snails in the garden.

I shall not comment on you ever again, life is too short to waste ones time dealing with those such as you.

I thank you for making me see sense.

I've met him once at the Manchester Airport Show back in 2001 and he's a nice chap.

As for the gobbing off etc this is just a bit of banter. Mick and I have been sparring for years. I had to replace Mr Pig, I guess, once those two could no longer post on the same forum.
Posted on: 01 May 2006 by andy c
indeed - but there is repetition in some of the posts in the padded cell on certain topics, isn't there?
Posted on: 02 May 2006 by Steve Toy
Repetition, circular arguments etc. are the nature of forums on a range of topics.

When Mick is in a filthy mood he needs to lash out at someone. I can see how the thought of giving his hard-earned to the government to fritter away on pet projects is making him grumpy.

The answer is to get an accountant and fill in your tax return in December. Then you can enjoy the spring and summer without such depressing thoughts.

Nope, but often there is nothing new to add to the 'I met a bad cop' - 'they are all not like that' - discussion, is there?
