The Bays

I just thought I'd mention this band again (previously mentioned by Alan Ball on the forum a couple of months ago)

..."If like many you have become more than a little jaded about the lack of quality live dance music, The Bays might represent just the tonic for your contemporary ill. No knob-twiddling or laptop sequencing, this band only plays live, never rehearses, has never written a song or a lyric, their music is created from thin air and is only available in raw, unrecorded formats. They represent just about the hottest, most talked-about band of the moment, and all that without a record contract!"

If you're interested there is a selection of free MP3s available on their own site @ www.thebays.com, including some large 'live at Glastonbury' sets.

Download'em - bung'em on a CDR and giv'em a proper listen. Awesome stuff eek

I'll have to give it a whirl at home, but my initial impression is far from positive. It could be any number of laptop-jammers.

I'm not sure that it's a new thing for house acts to be dull live. Orbital are the only act I've been bothered about seeing live since the Shamen stopped doing synergys.

The ethic seems similar to The Roots. The difference to my ears is that this stuff sounds like it could just have been done with electronics.

I'm on a 100Mbps lan connection to a 155mbps link, and still only managed 12.8kbps.

Coincidently, a gig they are playing in Brighton on Friday was flyered all over campus whilst I was in my office yesterday.
