I've always been a vinyl man but has the time to move camps arrived.
How good is the CDS3 compared to a top notch turntable? say LP12/EKOS/Arkiv/Lingo2

Now CDS£ (sorry saw a pound sign not the 3) is released CD is best.
When the new phono-stage to match the NAC552 pre-amplifier is released record players will be best again.

Good point!
My view (with CDS2 v. LP12/Lingo/Ekos/Arkiv B into NAC 82) is that it's all in the software. I.e. on the occasions I have it on both LP and CD, sometimes LP sounds better, sometimes CD sounds better. It's in the application, not the system.

I have heard a Boron against the Akiva. While the Boron is a fine cartridge, the Akiva makes it sound screachy.
To hear what can be done with vinyl, have a listen to the Akiva, ideally with a decent phone stage.

Haven't heard a CDS3 yet, or for that matter Akiva/Lingo 2, but my LP12/Ekos/Lingo/Arkiv/Prefix was always way, way ahead of my CD2, then CDX, then CDX/XPS. However with the acquisition of the CDS2 it got much, much closer, such that now I agree it depends on the software, the type of music, and the length of the listening session (CD starts off well, but tires the ears more quickly than vinyl).

In my system it's CD...CDX/XPS vs P25 with Elise.
But ultimately you are never really going to know, so why worry about it!
