nSub woes in western Canada...

Posted by: Billy Rubin on 18 July 2008

So, after a seemingly endless seven week wait between placing the order and finally talking delivery, I eagerly unpacked my new nSub.....

...and then realized that either my dealer had ordered the wrong cable or the wrong cable had been sent with the sub.

Frustrating: they sent a four pin DIN to RCA pair instead of the 10 meter Subline single RCA to single RCA that I had requested to connect to my AV2.

It sure looks nice, though...

I need a good sub too. Can we have a fair review of the Naim sub here? Thanks.

You'll have to leave that with me for a while.....my 17 month old Sony Pearl projector bulb has just expired after only 411 hours (expected life 1000+ hours) so the unit has been sent in for evaluation/bulb replacement.

I can tell you that the sub's build quality seems excellent. My current plan is to use it just for LFE AV duties and I placed it according to the directions. So far, I would say that it is nice to have the LFE effects but, unlike some previous posters, I'm not yet convinced that it is essential for full movie appreciation. I have yet to try different positioning - this may be particularly relevant in my room as the LFE do seem perceptibly directional (ie coming from the side of the room where the sub is), which surprised me. At 30 Kg, moving the thing is not easy, though - have to be careful not to impale yourself on a big spike...

Tuan,

You can try one at home, you just have to call...

Tuan

It would be nice if you took up Manu's offer.

A review by a sceptic (such as yourself) would be worth a thousand reviews by jaw-dropping enthusiasts.

Cheers

Don

PS for avoidance of doubt, the above statement is a compliment to Tuan

It will come to that. I am doing the process of elimination now and the naim sub will be on the next phase as I initially rate it with some respect. The last one to beat would be the one from Wilson Benesch, the maker of my favourite speakers: WB Discovery.
