Briks are mean mother******g speakers! I think I have the positioning spot on now, just wondered about any more I can do to optimize them in between wheel-barrowing new CD's home from the record shop.
I've read about the improvements to be had if the xovers are removed from the stands and moved away from the briks. This is not practical for me (nowhere for them to go) I thought if I decoupled the xovers by resting them on blutak I would get some of the benefit. Wrong! music gone. Sound just like a bad mains day. Blutak out, music back!
Is it worth experimenting with sorbothane, or cones or whatever, or are they best left as Linn intended?
Also one of the stand panels 'buzzes', fleetingly but annoyingly, when the briks are played REALLY loud. What's the best way of stopping this that doesn't involve the volume control?
Dave Cattlin - you caution against using pennies over the top spikes, why is this?, and what are the pros and cons (for the sound not the carpets!)of putting the stands onto screw heads in the floorboards?
I know someone is going to say 'use mana', I will investigate when funds allow, but not right now.
I love my briks, I love my briks, I love my briks.

I don't know about your speakers, but I recently put screws thru the carpets in my apartment into the wood flooring and it really extended the base. I believe made such a firm connection that a friend characterized it by saying it used the floor as a sound board like on a piano. Resonance on my Spendor 2/3s is incredible, however I don't know what it's doing to the guy below me tho he's not home much. I bet it's transmitting right down there clear as a bell. Good that he's a classical music fan as I am.

Jez,
Why not remove the offending panel from the stands. Come to think of it, they may sound better with all the panels removed. However, then you have to look at the ugly crossover.
Mana is highly recommended of course but their Brik stands are not designed to hold the crossovers. You may want to contact Mana directly on that one.
Of course, you could go Active! If your Briks are old enough you also have the option of refitting the older style crossovers into the cabinet itself.

I was told that the best way to mount the panels is to use silicone bath sealant (either black or clear is best so it doesn't show up).

I have been told that the speakers sound better with the panels in place - and they look a lot better, too. Hmm, haven't reconsidered this for some time - may have to experiment.
Indeed, you will then lose anywhere to actually place the x-overs.

Can we meet at the Manchester show and fix up some cross border visits from there?, also I've had an email from pd you might be interested in.

Thanks, it's not practical for me to mount them outside, but I would like to find a way to improve isolation of the xovers inside the stands. I realise that this may not be as good as getting them out altogether, but it's not a big deal as the briks sound fab just as they are. If I can get a little more for not much hassle or cash then I'm interested.
Have you tried screwheads under the stands? What did you find?

that maybe I should explain where I'm coming from.
My upgrading, except for a new rack, has 'finished', (for the foreseeable future - never say never!), I don't want to get into trying this tweak and that tweak and spend my time analysing the differences and getting all confused and neurotic about it. If anything destroys the music endless tweaking/upgrading etc does. The only exception would be where the improvement is clear (ie. no analysing needed), low hassle, and at low cost.
My system sounds great, I think it is as good as anyone could reasonably expect for the money (3500GBP), and now I am going to enjoy it! (Karik/hi/72/250/briks - all s/h).

Wow - turn the floor into sub! Anyone know how to tune a floor??? Does Mana make a 'floorbase' to stand the house on? I want one.
