Buying and shipping second hand Naim

Posted by: steve boyd on 30 January 2004

Hello all,
I have been reading the forum now for about 6 months and have decided to write my first post.Living in OZ is very good but means I have a lack of getting hold of Second hand or demo gear(new gear is quite expensive due to our poor exchange rate).I Am interested in getting hold of a Nap 250 or 200mk 2 to go with my AV2, Nap 175, Cd5, Pardigm ref speakers. Any suggestions on who to contact and who has had experience in shipping international ?
Many thanks
Steve

Hi Steve
I have sold several items of Naim stuff in the past and have so far shipped to - Hong Kong, New Zealand, Seattle, Provence, Brussels, Oslo and some others which I cannot remember. I always double-packed the items carefully and they all arrived safely so far (touch wood for the next time though). My experience suggests that buying and getting stuff shipped from UK was no problem at all.
I suggest that you just continue looking at the various forums like this one and get to know the regular posters etc. Watching ebay.co.uk might also be of some help as would keeping an eye on www.hififorsale.comand www.tomtomaudio.com.
I would also like to add that this is not a plug for me as I have nothing to sell or upgrade from right now.
Finally, the safest way is to buy from a UK Naim dealer. You then have the added convenience of using a credit card.
Good hunting and happy listening

You could log onto the British Audio Dealers website and do a search through their members ex-dem stuff - www.bada.co.uk -, as these are all approved dealers.

Hope that's of use.

Steve,

you might also want to get in touch with our local distributor Warren Stolmack (2 9984 0530). He should be able to point you in the direction of any second hand kit available through dealers in Australia. At least that way you know that should the worst occur you have some local support on hand. Sometimes that can be worth way more than the "saving" from buying in the UK....

Thankyou for your rapid replies,I have been looking at various stores in the UK for second hand/demo gear and was interested in others feedback on the purchase and transport of such items as amps etc.
Richard, I have spoken to Warren previously on other matters and hold him in high regard. He has my utmost confidence in all matters regarding distribution and sales of Naim products.
Thanks once again
Steve
