squashed speaker 'domes'

Posted by: Cletus Awreetus-Awrightus on 31 December 2001

Hi, recently the sounds from my system had sounded a bit off, so after a rejig and some cable replugging I removed the speaker grilles to find that all eight speaker domes have been 'pushed in' (kids eh?)to resemble crushed ping pong balls. frown
The speakers are mission 753F's and I wondered if there is anything that can be done?
I will be looking at changing them soon anyway (possibly Naim or the small spendor boxes) but if anyone knows a tip for pulling them back out it would be good for the mean time,
regards and happy New Year.
Paul.

...or give them the kiss of life. Make sure you are alone, though. wink

Tank tape can be used, it requires more pressure to unstick than to stick, IYSWIM.

Try having a go with a hoover, I did this on a pair I had which seemed to work (also missions). I also had to do this on the tweeter, very cheap pari of speakers but suspect there was certainly some permanent damage there.

Have a good one

I've had some success with Blu Tak, keep rolling it around till its warm and sticky, thn try pulling the domes back into shape, working gradually from the edges towards the centre.
