How to connect HiCap to CD5?
Posted by: HTK on 24 May 2003
As per header.
Any wisdom much appreciated. Getting the answer isn't as easy as I thought it would be.
Thanks also for the replies to my previous thread on where to get a HiCap S/H. Following the advice given, I'm now awaiting delivery of a 1987 model, just back at the dealers after a factory refurb and being sent to me next week.
After a remission of many years, upgraditis is creeping back. I'm now pondering the merits of Naim amplification. If only I could stay out of this forum...
Best wishes

You'll need a 5-pin--5-pin SNAIC. The 5-pin output on the back of the HiCap connects to the 5-pin input marked Aux/PS on the back of the CD5. The band on the SNAIC should be toward the CD5, apparently. Remove the blanking plug first!
Cheers,
Tim

That's exactly what I needed.
Thanks Tim for taking the time to pass that on.

The deed was done yesterday and oh my gawd - what a difference!
I knew there was more bass in there somewhere but what I wasn't expecting was the increased detail and sound staging. Amazing!
This from a refurb unit straight out of the box - I'm very excited at the prospect what it will sound like in a couple of weeks. Hand on heart, I have to say it is a touch lumpy and ever-so-slightly splashy at the top end. I'm confident this will settle.
One small concern - advice appreciated. Something was rattling around inside the case. Impossible to tell without opening it but it sounded like a small metal object rolling around inside. Since it obviously works and hasn't caught fire or anything, I'm not inclined to worry about this. Do you think I should be worried? I just want to sit back and enjoy.
Thanks
Harry

I would probably take the sleeve off and have a look inside. That said I haven't taken a peek inside yet, but apparently it is just a case of undoing the screws in the feet.
Someone will correct me if I am wrong, I am sure.
