Hi all,
I'm planning to rearrange my system tomorrow (Sunday) and would like some input on recommended minimum distance (lateral) between the individual components.
I expect that more distance is better, but for practical reasons I'd like to know how close it can get before noticing any significant detrimental effects:
- distance from psu or poweramp to preamp
- distance from psu/poweramp to cdplayer
- distance from poweramp to psu
Which component (preamp or cdplayer) should be placed furthest apart from poweramp/psu?
Surely, I can do some experiments myself, but it does take some time disconnecting, moving, reconnecting, listening, rearranging again etc. etc., so any input from people with first hand experience would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Claus

With the majority of peoples, pics you see people arrange the pre/cdp and psu/amp into 2 seprate groupings.
If you're dealing with a single rack, generally, preamp and CDP can be placed on adjacent shelves.
PSUs and amps can be likewise grouped together, but at least one shelf space, say, 20cm should be left empty between the preamp/cdp grouping.
With this arrangment, you can experiment with placement of the CDP and pre for best sound.
I put the pre/cdp on the upper shelves for convienence. However, most agree that the cdp sounds best on the bottom shelf, as it's the most stable area of the rack.

I've decided to try moving my poweramp out of the rack, leaving (from bottom): psu, tuner, preamp, cdplayer and LP12.
Didn't get on with it yet but when time allows I'm at it.

I've got my turntable and CD player on a seperate wall shelf. On the main rack the power amp is on the bottom, the power supply one up, mini-disc player (normally switched off) on the next up and the pre-amp on shelf 4.
Setting them up like this with the pre-amp further away from the other components has seemed to help a little.

Claus,
you may find it better to keep the LP12 away from the Naim stuff.
Of course, you then need to find a separate support for the LP12.

Until now I've had my lp12 on a Target wall shelf. Just removed the shelf to make the room "look nicer" - and to use the LP12 on a M*** shelf on top of my rack.
However, due to my very soft floor I really need a wall shelf for the LP12! Too bad - it really looks much better without the wall shelf, and I was hoping for some improvements from the M*** shelf as well.
So the preamp will stay on the top shelf, next comes CD player, then tuner and finally psu and poweramp (stacked). The LP12 will sit just above (10-15cm) the preamp.
Still considering to move the 250 to my TV stand, just on the left.
Cheers,
Claus

Re: your 250,
Along with the floorborne NAPSC, amps are the least affected by racking. IIRC, JV hid his amps in a cupboard.
Your 250 on the TV stand shouldn't be a problem at all.
