Porcupine Tree - BBC radio session
Posted by: DenisA on 14 April 2007
On 13th April Porcupine Tree recorded 5 tracks for the BBC at their Maida Vale Studios, including 3 tracks from the new album (Fear of a Blank Planet). These will be broadcast next week (Tue 17 Apr 00.00-02.00) on the Radio One Rock Show (host Daniel P. Carter) and the Bruce Dickinson Rock Show on BBC 6 Music Sat 28 Apr 21.00-00.00). Both broadcasts also include interviews.
Here is a soundandvisionmag review. If you have a DVDA Player, I n-Vi you as this review could lead you into temptation for the September release of the DVDA version.
Anyone attending the UK gigs this month are in for a real treat. PT previewed FOABP last autumn, before recording the album, and boy did they shift some air. The longest track is about 17 mins and was known as "The Beast" and is now called "Anesthetize". Steven Wilson joked about his 'Les Dawson' prowess on the keyboard, so now he should have worked out the notes in the right order

Larry,
If you click on both Rock Show links and select 'Listen Again' the shows from 10 Apr and 14 Apr are Playing.
When PT tour the US, Steven Wilson will be interviewed by Shawn Bishop on The Dividing Line. The current Show (7 Apr) can be streamed or downloaded and features 3 PT tracks at the end of the show. This Internet Radio Station has been a great find with plenty of variety from the presenters. A great chance to find something new and even a Beatles Podcast from the Ticket to Ride show by Rene Young.
BTW, which show are you going to see?
Happy Listening

Denis,
Thanks for the PT info. I am hoping they will add more US tour dates in the southeast. Have you purchased your copy of "Fear of a blank planet"? I have to wait another week in the US. Let me know what you think of it.

Hi Larry,
I have the FOABP Ltd Edition CD and played it once thru and now Anesthetize twice! One thing evident is that as this is a Band Production it has a different feel to a sole Steven Wilson effort. This could open up a larger Fan base for PT, especially if PT got a decent Night billing at Festivals. In a Concert Hall though this album rocks MUCH LOUDER 'live'.
Should PT get sales success from this release, I don't think any of the band will have to worry about 'which ones tree'
SW is not that kind of guy in my observations of his musical output so far.
I received this today from my registration to FOABP

US PRESS RELEASE
PORCUPINE TREE GEAR UP FOR RELEASE OF
'FEAR OF A BLANK PLANET' (ATLANTIC/ APRIL 24)
WITH MAJOR TOUR, GLOWING REVIEWS,
AND NEW MUSIC VIDEO
"Porcupine Tree is at the height of its powers, with down-to-earth lyrics and panoramic music by Steven Wilson, and transcendent playing by everybody."
-Sound & Vision May 2007
Porcupine Tree are gearing up for the release of their new, and by all accounts, best album, 'Fear of a Blank Planet' (Atlantic/April 24), with a flurry of activity that includes a major U.S. and European tour and a new music video by director Lasse Hoile.
Their tour kicks off Wednesday, April 18 in Glasgow, UK, and arrives in the U.S. on May 7 (Seattle). They will play the new album in its entirety on this tour, material that was embraced by fans when the band debuted it here on a mini-tour last November. Meanwhile, the demand for the band's music in Europe has literally been overwhelming: Record stores in Europe sold out of the special edition of the CD on the day of release, and copies could be found on eBay selling for hundreds of dollars.
The reviews, both from the UK and the U.S., bear out this fervor: Q Magazine declared it "a dramatic, wide-screen, expertly executed, even genuinely thrilling rock record worthy of an audience way beyond nu-prog's regular constituency," while Decibel enthuses that "Porcupine Tree prove they can play with the best of 'em."
On April 24, Porcupine Tree will premiere the compelling and cautionary video for the title track of the album on their Myspace page (myspace.com/porcupinetree) and a high resolution version on FOABP. The video is directed by acclaimed Danish artist and photographer Lasse Hoile, who also designed the multimedia backgrounds for the tour.
Finally, you can catch Porcupine Tree manager Andy Leff on Bloomberg TV this Friday night on Night Talk with Mike Schneider (8-10 pm ET) in a roundtable discussion with other music biz insiders on the changing nature of the music industry in the age of digital media.

Thanks for the tip.
I´m afraid that I´ve not gotten into Porcupine Tree on the same level as you and other contributors. Still a lot to discover, wich is really nice....
My dear brother in law gave me the Warsawa album as a birthday present and getting into that. But this I gather you all have that album, by far gone.
regards
