Music for babies
Posted by: BLT on 05 August 2003
As a new baby is due to arrive in our house in mid October, does anyone have reccommendations for music that will calm the wee beastie? I have read that it is a good idea to play music to the foetus and then play the same music again when you want your baby to calm down.

He is James (known as Jay) Lawrence Taylor, was 7lbs, 40z, and has a healthy head of light brown hair. Judging from the amount of oohing and aahing from the ladies he is a fairly cute baby, too!

Fantastic news. Congrats. I will have a few beers to Jay tonight, and I bet he likes Bed of Roses off the Uncle Anethesia album best (Screaming Trees).
You are obviously doing a great job so far

Our little one (3 weeks) was silenced by the new Plastikman (Closer) which is rather worrying. He also seemed to enjoy the Trojan 'Dub' Cd's in the car.
In fact, any music seems to be benificial except the crap that comes out of those horrible mobile things that are fitted to Cribs/Cots.

Well, he maybe would - but I don't have a copy! (Is it any good?) He does seem to favour "Witness" off "Dust".
Sonofcolin - I agree, it is surprising what they like and dislike, Jay doesn't seem to care for most of the "baby" music (apart from the Baby Einstein Classical stuff),

I played my two much of the softer, more tuneful stuff I liked which ranged from Mozart to the Beatles, Beach Boys, and even some Neil Young. The older one was born in California so the repertoire for him also included some Proclaimers! Both have turned out to have a far higher level of musical interest (and apparently talent) than the norm. Whether this is coincidence who knows. If nothing else some nice gentle classics are going to enhance any situation including time spent with your child-to-be.
