AC/DC Sony/Epic 2003 remasters

Has anyone had a chance to compare these with the 1994 Sterling Sound remasters? Apparently the new releases are all available now, in Digipacks with extended booklets etc.

They are excellent - a new lease of life.
Also they are in the HMV sale at the moment - bargain!

Austria - does it make any difference?

Hmmm, yes, can do. It's not so noticable with the CDS2, but when I still had a CDX I could easily tell the difference between American pressings and European ones. This was usually so with CDs from American artists.
I suspect it may have something to do with the pressing plant being in the same country as the mastering plant and receiving better copies of the master tape, which in theory shouldn't make a difference with digital, but there you go. (I once heard it was not unusual for "masters" to be transferred via the phone line.)
In a blind test I could tell two different pressings apart, "guessing" correctly in seven replays of the same track (that, apparently, is a statistically relevant result).
I asked because Australian and some other countries' pressings are notorious for their inferiour quality (apart from my own experience, I wouldn't know whether that's true, though).

OK, so being the sucker that I am, I ordered three older albums in their latest incarnation. Compared to the 1994 CD remasters there is a little more detail on some tracks, perhaps a tiny bit more bass, and overall they're louder -- IMO not worth it, in fact I think I prefer the 1994 ones.
The remastering this time round was done by the same people who did it 1994 -- Sterling Sound. If the current versions were much better, they'd have to admit they didn't do that good a job then; things being as they are, they'd have to admit they're ripping people off.

Thomas,
I've just bought three of the remastered titles on vinyl and they really are superb. I have oringinal pressings of them and these remasters are far superior.
I have no idea what the equivalent cd versions are like.
I mentioned the recent AC/DC remasters a couple of weeks ago here and got no replies, so it looks like there are not many fans on the Naim forum.

It's great to hear the new vinyl remasters sound so good.
I'm definitely a fan and was lucky enough to catch the Hammersmith Apollo gig last week - they were awesome. What a tight band and what a show. Angus still has what it takes.
I think I'll be tempted by the 15x180g albums in a box set - if I can find £230 (gulp).
Cheers
