Posted by: ewemon on 03 February 2009

I have been following this auction closely and here's it's final result.

Anyone out there got one of these babies?

Wow, based on this my 35DP collection will forever hold a gap. Big Grin

On a more serious note I have the Mastersound which is amazing, would love to hear a comparison to the 35DP so.

I wonder how much this might be worth had it been opened?
Is all the value down to the sealed freshness?
I think I may have a copy!
Will check tomorrow, as all my cd's, albums and stereo have been in storage for over a year due to living in a building site.
Have the mastersound too, which I agree is amazing.

Gosh!!

I have to say I have the Mastersound version too and this is far better than the original release.

I am waiting for the SACD version though, because I have DSOTM on original, Mastersound Gold and the SACD version. The SACD version is of highest fidelity - perhaps because the equipment used for this master was more recent....?

I therefore predict that the stereo sound from the SACD of WYWH will also sound the best!

If any have news, please post!!

Mastersound? Mastersound Gold? I have not heard of these, I live a sheltered life.. I do know that wish you were here on 'normal' CD sounds very flat.

This is the mastersound, it sounds fantastic and was mastered by Doug Sax.

Ok I admit my ignorance Ewemon marra ...just why is this particular CD SO valuable?

Rare 1st pressing from Japan sealed with it's OBI. When you put it into a cd player it only shows two tracks.

Supposedly one of those masterings/pressings when played that have the band in the living room wiht you.

Sadly my CD5X will not play the DVD-A, but apart from that, the best CD of DSoTM is the 30th anniv job, also remastered by Doug Sax.

No news of the 30th WYWH, though; I gather its being worked on, but soooo slowly...

>£3700!!!

Can you play it?

On the DVD player I assume.

35th?

I think that the Gilmour Gdansk / OAI live stuff, and the Waters Ca Ira project have had higher priority.

Could be just that they are being very, very fussy.

Wish it was here...

Around US$500, with OBI maybe a little more.

I prefer the Black Triangle over the SACD & MoFi. I have only heard the redbook layer on the SACD so and have never heard the 35DP.

Not quite as simple! A standard DVD player will play its Dolby Digital/dts layers but not its DVD-A track (in MLP, 4.1 channels of uncompressed 24/96) unless you've got a DVD that'll play DVD-As (quite rare)

Still, sounds pretty good in dts though.

It would appear that my Pioneer DVR-LX 70D does not support DVD-A.

Jon,

Get it on original vinyl and see if the remastered cd's sound better.

For me you should hear the music on the format it was designed for this is especially true for older titles though there are probably exceptions to the contrary but not many.

The 30th Anniversary vinyl sounds better than my original vinyl copy (bought on the day it came out). Mind you, the latter might be slightly worn...

I was going to mention that Tony but I was really reffering to WYWH original pressing. I have the 30th anniversary edition as well and its fantastic so don't see the point in buying a mint original for 30 quid.

I totally understand your point, Dean, and I agree with you!!

Unfortunately I have a CD based system and can't readilly get its vinyl equivalent as much as I'd like to!!!

Jon
