Base considerations

I got no real Frames, only some imitations of the original design (that time I’ve reported on my efforts on the Forum). However, they must be relatively good because they share with the original in its known limitation: the base level should remain free.
I got two supports, consisting of one base and two levels each, giving 6 levels alltogether. One of the supports is carrying PS for CD and pre, with the 250 amp on the base level (sorry). The other support, however, is carrying only the CD player and the preamp, leaving the base level free. I tried to install the socket+ball+glass set on this free base and realized an immediate degradation of the sound.
I got a second 250 (not yet rebuilt like the firts one, I must admit) and wanted to try the two amps in the “2x125” configuration with each of the half-amps driving one of the speakers. So the need arised for the 6th level. The experiment gave a laughable result, the sound degraded instead of being improved.
When it comes to an upgrade, Naim Audio’s suggestions is preferring better equipment to multi-amplification. The reasons are well-known. Now I can add one more reason to them. Imagine I go active. Then I should put
a) one PS on the base mentioned above (just below so to the proximity of the “fine” electronics!),
b) a second HiCap to the first one and
c) an active crossover to the 72, in appartment-sharing.
The effect on the whole supported system may be ruined most of the improvement, I’m afraid. Alternatively one could buy (make) a third Frame or at least two more level of it. It all would be added to the cost.
