Burning vinyl ...

Posted by: Arye_Gur on 08 August 2001

Actually I want to copy vinyl to cd's (in order to listen in the car).

Is there something new about the recording machines that can copy any source through the stereo system, or should I rely on my computer ?
What software and cards are required to achieve best results with the computer ?
As my computesr is not at the same room with the system, I prefer a recording machine that will take the place of the Tape recorder.

Is that the one that Richer Sounds are selling just now? I've been thinking about buying one for CD creation, but also as a player for my office system.

Any comments on the playback quality?

If you can get one of these, they are truly excellent. They were one of the early CDR's and benefit from a very high quality A2D converter. I use one, it cost me something like £600 second hand a while ago (£1300 new). The newer CDR's are not on a patch to these if recording from an analog source is your thing. A friend of mine who runs a studio has one for sale (if it isn't sold yet), email me off-line if you want.

Phil,

Thanks. "pretty average" playback is all I require for the office back ground music. As long as it isn't actually horrible wink

Just got one of these and the replay is actually very good considering how much the deck cost (£400) and that it also records. UI is a bit peculiar, and it doesn't always pick up the track incrememnts when hooked up to my DVD player (streaming CD via the Digital Out). Replay is not a million miles away from the CD5 without hicap, although that player obviously has the edge (but is useless at recording ;-)

The Marantz CD630R records well, and sounds great through an off board DAC (Linn Numerik. About as good as a £300 Cd replay only player on its own.

I make compliation CDs for the car, or for archiving rare vinyl to listen to away from the main system.

I also use a PC CD burner and editing software to remove clicks, scratches and surface noise from old vinyl - works a treat.

What kind of software do you use - and where can I get it ?
