NAC 202 and Supercap

Is it possible to use a Supercap with a 202? The manual suggests it's not possible but I was wondering if there was some way round this.

Why bother?

Surely an upgrade to a 282 or just adding a Hi-cap would be more cost effective.

Steve.

I would view it as an ideal stepping stone to a 252 in the future SmileIf you download the connections manual you will see that is it possible. Thinking of doing it myself.

yes, it is possible, but obviously doesn't get full value from the Supercap. But as astepping stone to 52 could be worthwhile.

You will still need NAPSC however for digital bits on 202

Thanks. I just noticed a reference in the manual so I guess it's possible but it looks as though the Supercap requires two 5 pin connections while the 202 only has one.

Incidentally I was thinking of it as a possible long term thing, and a step towards a 252.

Yep, thinking of the same thing and skipping the 282. I have a napsc, but it is optional for the 202. If you've got the dosh for a sc, then the napsc is a no brainer.

With a 42.5, 62, 92, 32,5, 72, 102, 112, or 202, the supercap is connected and used as if it's a Hicap or a Flatcap.

And if your target is an 52/252, s'capping one of the models listed above could be a very good move. Pro Musica used to like to demo a 102/s'cap against an 82.

Timster & TomK

Looks like all of us are trying to work towards the same thing. My 202 is currently powered by a Hi-Cap and NAPSC - I realise that the Supercap with just one connection would be under utilised but as you've both said it's a great stepping stone towards a 252 and if you can afford it now it will at least take some of the financial pain away when we do buy the 252! Just out of interest has anybody actually heard a 202 powered by a Supercap?

Hi Nick

I haven't listened a 102/Sc myself but I have a friend who put a supercap on his 102/180 and he said that everything got sweeter (less harsh), larger, -the musique seemed detached from the speaker with more depth.

he also said that the supercap made every part of the system better adding that in a way the power supply was kind of a source too! The supercap brings the instrument closer to their actual scale.

His conclusions were that the supercap does a great job with the 102 and he would probably prefer a 102/SC over a 82/HC.

Hope this helps

Edouard
