From my experiences they appreciate the music first & formost, the kit used doesn't seem to matter so much, as long as it works ok they don't seem fussed!!
The people I have met that work in the music industry understand the differences between good & not so good kit but overall they probably would'nt be bothered about spending the extra. So would most likely purchase the not so good kit & listen to it quite happily!

Maybe this is because there is a thing called real live music & then there is hi-fi

The guy who runs my local Naim dealership is a musician and reckons that, in his experience the percentage of musicians that have good kit is about the same as non-musicians - i.e. not many!

Musicians get off on the real thing. Hi-Fi isn't the real thing (no matter what you spend) so their attitude is "Why bother"?

A lot of DJ's seem to use crap. Bob Harris uses a pair of Goodmans Magisters from the 70's in his main system at home and spends his life listening to music.

I reckon that the tweakiness of good Hi-Fi would get in the way of the music for a lot of them.

Friends of mine are concert musicians - music at home is derived from oldish Quad and Tannoy kit.

Having said that a mid-grand, various keyboards & recording equipment, hecklephones etc etc - get a fair outing.
