AV connected TV sounding through all other preamp inputs

Posted by: JonnyC on 21 September 2009

Dear All,

When I connect my Sony TV to my nac 112x via the AV input I can hear the tele through all other preamp inputs except the AV input.

Am I doing something wrong (over and above connecting a cheap TV to my naim through a Maplin cable) or has the preamp got fried circuits? When I disconnect the TV all is fine.

I understand one has to be careful of earthing loops. The TV is supplied through the ring main and the Naim through a separate spur.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated,

JonnyC

Looking at the maunal for the 112 (couldn't find the 112X) it says that the "mono" button on the remote operates the tape monitor circuit. This might be mixing things up. I would try toggling that.

Anyone know how to do a full reset on a 112X? I coudn't find it.

Hi Winkyincanada

Many thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately it hasn't worked. Tried the factory reset as well (hold down disp key in programme mode) but no joy.

Try adding it to say the CD input and see if the problem persists.

Jonny,

this sounds like the cheap Maplin cable has got a DIN that isn't correctly wired for Naim. What you describe is symptomatic of putting a signal input through the tape loop outputs - you end up with signal on all inputs!

I'd get an interconnect specifically made for Naim DIN.

Sounds like a very good idea Richard.
