My 72 is a pretty black box-- what can it do in an analogue sense?

I want to start getting into vinyl and that means I need to know what I need in terms of phono stage etc.
--- or-- do I already have the necessary phono boards in my 72?? If so, are they MM or MC Hammer?
It is a stock unit as far as i know (bought used).
yours in the dharma,
David

settle down James - noone's suggested one needs a demo on the same deck. Just two same spec'd decks, set up by the same bloke, same carts - is sufficient. Easy? There's an obstacle to everything in life if one thinks long enough.
Three days to tune an LP12? How about learning to do it right first time. What happens to the state of tune after a ride home in the car?? What next, model railways?
For the record (no pun intended), Any LP12/Ittok + external PSU should play music better than a CDSII given a reasonable state of setup.
You're digging yourself a hole, man - while attempting to ward off other's arguments as "taking it all too seriously". Take a few deep breaths, have a glass of your fave tipple, play some music. Feel better now?

james mcp: FWIW the Ekos has a little more ‘bottom-end slam’ than the Ittok, but the downside is that the Ekos sounds less ‘natural’ and ‘effortless’ than the Ittok. So, therefore a change, not an upgrade.
Factor in the ‘Mana effect’, and it’s all over.
IMO, of course.
So it's not a question of not hearing a difference but of hearing something quite different from what I hear. Interesting. In case anyone's interested, I wrote about it (as Sproggle) here: Ittock/Ekos

PS: Sorry, I had the right page but the wrong post in the link earlier.

Since equal numbers seem to love Mana and loathe it, perhaps (in the interest of a peaceful forum) those who regularly recommend Mana would choose to add straightforwardly each time that many dislike it? This would give those who do dislike it no valid reason to interject.

nice thought but unlikely to happen...
given the almost religious fanaticism exhibited by the users of M*** (witness the hoofed one's conversion, see also James McP above)

james mcp: Guess again. Mana is the only support on the market which actually works... If you and Jeremy couldn't get it to work for you, tough. Your loss, not ours.
James, I have not, so far, expressed any opinion on Mana on this thread. In fact, I tend to avoid expressing an opinion on it because I have NOT heard it in my own system - or had a proper demo of it - and because you and others have suggested that the lack of tunefulness, disjointed sound, ear splitting screechiness, unnatural dynamics and lack of tonal colour that I hear may be due to set-up issues.
But my opinion on Mana is irrelevant. What is relevant is that many others who have given Mana a fair chance in their own systems dislike it. A simple acknowledgement of this fact when you recommend Mana would stop a thread like this one turning into yet another duplicate Mana debate that irritates most forum members, alienates newcomers and does nothing to encourage anyone to listen to Mana for themselves. Isn't it worth the minor inconvenience of writing a few extra words every time you recommend Mana?

"Mana is the only support on the market which actually works"
I have tried James, really I have but the above nugget puts you firmly into camp B
Camp A - balanced and open minded opinions
Camp B - this guy's view should always be taken with a pinch of salt as it is totally clear that he is happy to slag off the choices of others whilst massively, aggresively and endlessly talking up his choices with the bias gauge set to eleven.

" your hi-fi is for your entertainment, no-one else's".
Actually it's the music I play on it that does the entertaining, for myself and many others.
