30th Anniversary editions

Posted by: Spock on 21 October 2003

I recently purchased a couple of CD's both 30th anniversary editions which certainly bring back fond memories.
They were:
King Crimson - In the court of the crimson king
Wishbone Ash - Argus

Saw the latter at Hammersmith Odeon (Long time ago now) and don't reckon I'll ever forget that gig till the day I die.

So there you go, a couple of cracking CD's each over 30 years old and as good/better as anything being produced today.

What get's your vote on the trip down memory lane?

Top selections indeed. Got most of these so as soon as I get a decent deck I'll be digging them out of the loft.

Yep - Trips & King Crimson was the order of the day. Miss all that sort of stuff now I've grown up a bit.

Sigh...

Sorry to be pedantic BUT
King Crimson- In the Court 1969
Wishbone Ash-Argus 1972
Still, both are excellent, the Wishbone Ash in particular is a superb re-issue, remixed and remastered with bonus of rare live ep as extra tracks.
Just got the remastered Television Marquee Moon, excellent with bonus of first single Little Johnny Jewel in entirety. Marquee Moon track restored to full length although this only means another 50 seconds!!!
Would also include the re-issues of The Who, excellent packaging and extra tracks but am miffed that they are now being re-issued again as Defenitive Editions with even more extra tracks eg, Live at Leeds now has the full live version of Tommy as second disc.
The Yes re-issues look good as well.
There is talk of the Gong Radio Gnome Trilogy all being remastered each with bonus live and studio material.

Nice on all the first counts though never heard King Crimson (believe!). The Gong album I've heard once, round a mate's - rather nice. I have Goats Head Soup on 8track but haven't got round to playing it yet (a haul with the last player I got)...

How much is the ELP one (with opening gatefold) on vinyl worth - I really want to get a copy just for the cover alone, though I guess anything ELP should be pretty decent musically too?

The (35 years-ish anniversary) release of Forever Changes by Love has got to be one of the best sounding CDs I've ever heard - it seems to turn up in the HMV sale all the time and it's worth every penny.

Oh, and trips, memory and Love at Glastonbury this year, well, a splendid time was had by all...

I have now bought all King Crimson's 30th Anniversay series, except Larks Tongues in Aspic ('cos I'd only just got it on CD - Bummer), and Earthbound, which is awful anyway.
I love 'em

I picked up a nice early copy about a month ago for 3 quid from Sound Machine.

I got the Rhino 'Fragile' remaster on CD, it's available on DVD-A for those that care. Much better than 1994 remasters and inculdes 'America'.

I'd add the Caravan 30th Anniversary re-issues...

Land of Grey and Pink
If I could do it all again I'd do it over you...

both excellent analogue sounding CD's and top music as well!
