This down-under country boy is about to embark on his first visit to London, first visit anywhere really and seeks to cont. his hifi education. having started in naim I would like to keep my interest there. What are the best dealers?
Im also interested in checking out any good vinyl shops.
regards Ian

Berwick Street in Soho has lots of record shops, with Selectadisc the pick of the bunch.
Have fun.

Ian take lots and lots of money to Berwick street, it can suck you dry in more ways than one.
There is also a shop down portabella road called exotica, which has lots of very rare records if thats your thing.
for Hifi, nestled amongst the crap in Totnam court road is a few good shops, I remember one being down stairs with lots of dem rooms, but never got the name of it. Had naim in their though although for some reason it all looked beat up!

Ian,
you'll find that most of the dealers in London don't want to know you. I have been a number of stores since I got here with the majority telling me to bugger off and book an appointment before they'd talk to me. Only 2 have bucked the trend. Oranges & Lemons in Clapham is one that was ok, but Raj at Superdeal(pity about the name) in Croydon was excellent.

Dunno if you're going for the OE or just a trip.
if The Studio is now up and running in their new premesis, they will be well worth the visit - Peter & Ted know Naim well, and how to talk to people too!
Auditorium in New King's Road SW6 is worth a visit - Derek is a great guy, knows his flat earth from the round earth, and is well worth visiting.
Lots of people here will no doubt tell you to go visit Grahams, but don't be surprised if they sniff out the credit card limit in your pocket as you walk through the door, and are disdainful of you not calling in advance to book a demo (whatever hapened to choose a dealer first?)
Still, as they used to say "don't leave town till you've seen the country" - there are some rather good dealers down here - Real Music Company in Wellington being recently listed as "one of the best five hifi shops in the world".

The 'downstairs place with beat up Naim gear' is 'Hi-Fi experience' It is a busy place and I regard it as 'shite' for customer service.
The Cornflake shop is much better. Go in and say you'd like to book an appointment. Sometimes they will give you a dem on the spot. It depends. Much nicer. Great dem rooms.
Musical images in Cov garden also has Naim kit. Again, it depends on when you go in. Sometimes they are good and sometimes they are bad.
Good luck

But of course, if he's not buying that (in uk at least) amounts to wasting the dealer's time.

Definately call & book a demo before otherwise you will just be wasting your time!
