Dr Who

Don't forget, y'all!

We are wading our way through every episode of the original series and have just encountered Tom Baker on Monarch of the Glen. He reminds me of a rather amiable polar bear.
I think they are priming us up for the new series. I must push them into this forum, it should give them plenty of ammo for their promos.

I sat behind Tom Baker on a train to Birmingham a couple of weeks ago. I was rather proud of myself for not asking him if he'd forgotten his Tardis! He must get "jokes" like that every day in life, poor man.

My anorak has failed. I thought there was a limited number of re-incarnations the Doctor could go through. Can't remember the exact number now though.
Over to JonR !

That's sad...but I've found a replacement

Julian Rhind-Tutt (Green Wing, Rotters Club)

I thought it was 9.

It seems to be 12 regenerations max although the Master has already exceeded that by taking over another body. I'm sure they'll find a way round it if they have to. Maybe they'll make all his early adventures part of a dream or something!

Hee hee - sorry to disappoint you Howard, I'll have to defer to "higher authority" here Big Grin I actually thought it was 6, but then again maybe that was the number of doctors I had seen so far at the time Winker

A shame Eccleston's leaving - Julian Rhind-Tutt would be a good choice as replacement though!

Cheers,

Jon

I couldn't agree more.

And I noticed that Delia Derbyshire didn't get a credit for the music. Of course, there's no logical reason why she should, since Ron Grainger wrote the notes but it was her version that, IMO, turned it from just another piece of music into a work of genius.

Being new to having DSL now I've noticed that even when I'm supposedly offline, my modem still seems to be working overtime with a vengeance akin to that of the Master, any thoughts on these wierd appenins (as our Kofi would say).

Fritz Von I would have normally asked our Mick directly through his lodge but he's away in Oxford right now converting two old esso blue petrol tanker loads of crude port (parafino) into oaken casks and fancy intellectual lookin bottles so they'll sell for much more, and make you more intelligent into the bargain after drinking them, innit. Seriously though is every episode going to have the good doctor stood prone for ten minutes before he decides to do something ffs.
Posted on: 02 April 2005 by JonR
Nah he's done a bit more this time - it was Rose's turn to lie prone!
Posted on: 02 April 2005 by garyi
Eh? Wood womans stood there burning and he just stands there for a full 5 minutes, doh!
Posted on: 02 April 2005 by JonR
Yeah but 'e was stuck between those great big bloody ship propellers, wunnee!

I forgot to mention that I was most impressed by the first episode. As for today's, the less said the better...

BTW, has the Doctor been the last of the Time Lords for some er... time or is it new for this series?

[Edit: I accidentally called him "Dr. Who" - the shame, the shame].

I got up really early today (7.30) to catch my first opportunity to watch last weeks first episode with my daughter. We just squeezed it in before the day started.
This has got to be the BEST Dr Who series ever. I LOVE it!! I am already devastated that CE has quit. Can't wait for todays - which I won't be watching just yet of course. Roll Eyes

I couldn't tell you about it even if I wanted to. I'm an hour into your future and there is no way to communicate except by leaving a message for you to find an hour later. Cool

Well I've just watched the first episode of the new series. We are a week behind here in Canada. Overall I liked it, I do prefer the orignal music to the modernised version they now have.

How long are the episodes over there? I'm assuming 30 minutes, because here it is approx 1 hour with commercials every 10 minutes which really ruins the flow.

I think I'll have to wait for a few more episodes before I make my mind up on this series, but first impressions are generally good.

Having now watched the first episode I have to say I quite enjoyed it. Nice quirky and humourous style to it. Special effects up a notch (BTW I was not expecting Hollywood style effects) compared to previous series.

Second episode to watch now (well a little bit later) although judging by earlier comments it may be disappointing.

And how on earth did they manage to broadcast it over one hour in Candad even with the adverts???

45 Minutes.

Oh well, it looks like I am in the minority in thinking the new series is just dreadful!

Episode one was weak (in my eyes) but could be forgiven for having to cover a lot of ground. Episode two was simply drivel though - there was simply no real plot or substance.

And don't get me started on the new Dr. - to me Mr Ecclestone is just awful in the role (I appreciate his work elsewhere though).

And don't get me started on the Tardis . .

OK rant over . .

Well I'm shocked!
I thought you were going to fit in nicely here. But if you go venting on our Dr Who thread without so much as a "by-your-leave"...well I just don't know...
