Forgive the passionate outbursts of a long time Dr. Who fan who just can't bear to see something he loves ruined!

Perhaps I'm stuck in the past . . .

Anyhoo . . I shall endeavour to behave more like a gentleman forthwith . . Big Grin

Over the years I've always thought that whils't the tardis was being toshed out by the Doctor's scouse painting crew, he was earning a buck on the side (just like Our Mick) hush hush, as the drummer in the famous old DDR band the Puhdys, innit.

Thank god it's after the watershed Fritz.
That lot would terrify the most hardened Dr Who fans.

I thought that tonight's episode was the best of the series yet. To have Simon Callow as Dickens was casting from strength indeed. And I'm sure that all you clever people enjoyed Dickens asking "What the Shakespeare was that?"

Couldn't agree more Graham. I thought it was fantastically entertaining and chuckled out loud on several occasions while my 10 year old son found it pretty scary in places. Also thought Ms Piper looked particularly fetching.

Tom

Ms Piper in Victorian dress. So she'd be wearing stockings. And didn't Victorian women avoid wearing "briefs"? I'm off to have a cold shower!

Is this anything to do with Victoria's Secrets?

Pandora's Box must have stunk to high heaven !

Even my wife said this Victorian ghoulies was best so far.

Dalek - a bit overdone in places, IMO, but too good for it to matter. Well worth searching out if you missed it.
Posted on: 30 April 2005 by Berlin Fritz
One dalek says to another who was wearing a kilt 'traitor' ? Cool

Fritz Von No! I didn't gert it either Razz

It was a big bunch of gay.

Quite frankly the whole series started out just on OK and had deteriorated.

I know I ave to remember the target audience and how difficult it must be to get the balance of yesterday fans and new day kids, but something broke somewhere.

The doctor in love with slappa girl?
Daleks with feelings?
The centre of the UN in England?

Common its a stretch innit?

All I thought of when the dalek extended it's tentacle was :

"I bet that's not the first time that's happened to her....."

innit - too !

Just goes to show how fickle we all are. I'd say something's been fixed somewhere. I thought tonight's was one of the best bits of TV SF I've ever seen. The idea of a Dalek being made to question its existence appealed to me. And maybe the Doc just wants to get into her pants. Who can blame him for that?

Is there another piece of TV iconery that is next on the revival list. Any suggestions??. Maybe the Avengers or would that be too camp.
Posted on: 30 April 2005 by Stephen B
I still reckon it's the best that's been on TV for a long time. I liked the bit where the dalek elevated up the stairs.

I'm thoroughly enjoying it! The writing is clever, intelligent and the humour unexpected and nicely balanced.

There is simply no comparison with any of the old series or the old characters. Other than the characteristic modesty of the technology. Though this time it does what it says on the tin in a believable manner.

I also disagree that the target audience is hiding behind the settee. The are sitting smack in the middle and grinning like a fish with the subwoofer turned well up.

A BBC chemistry set that works wonderfully well. They can honestly claim that Dr Who isn't dumbing anybody down. I imagine a number of parents are being interrogated as to the meaning of parts of the script. But only after the excitement is all over.

Lomo,

Blakes 7 is next for revival I hope and is another Terry Nation masterpiece. The old series are all in the process of being re-released on DVD with some good extras. Series 1 and 2 are already out, Series 3 is out in early June and the rights were purchased from the Terry Nation Estate for a new series around a year ago.

The acting, plotlines and characters were amongst the best of any Sci-fi series imho and the Liberator was one of the coolest spaceships ever. I've been savouring the delights of the first two series in recent months and if anything enjoying it even more the second time around now that I am a similar age to the cast!

Garyi

I agree!

For me the series started as mediocre but hit an unbelivable low last night . . .

The new Dr is just an idiot and the watching the new Dalek just broke my heart - from the ridiculous 'rabbit' ears to psuedo existential angst that prompted its demise - yeuch!

Why do sci-fi writers always want to give robots emotions? For me, the real terror in a sci-fi robot is that it should be beyond reason, utterly inhuman, cold and merciless . . . to my mind it has only been achieved twice; the original Daleks and the first Terminator.

OK rant over

A similar age to the Blakes 7 cast, Jonathan?? And you're just about to start a flying career?? Perhaps there's hope for me after all!! Winker (I thought it was good last night actually Smile )

Help, it starts next week as the big May offering. Time slot 6pm,too early for most adults except for the very retired variety who eat tea by 5.30. So it does seem a wasted opportunity if you lot are to be believed.

This weeks Doctor Who episode 'Dalek' was the best yet I think. It was much better as it was written by someone other than Russell T davies. I really don't think his writing is up to it.
Posted on: 02 May 2005 by Rasher
The Victorian ghost one was written by Mark Gatiss of League Of Gentlemen fame.
I think it's all brilliant, especially considering what a weak programme it was anyway during the later years. My daughter loves it and that is the primary audience Garyi, don't forget. You'll be complaining that Ballamory is boring next! Big Grin Winker
