possible problem w/ CD5???

Hi

I am wondering if anyone is having a similar problem as with my CD5. It has no problem playing CD, but I began to notice sound coming from the inside the player while opening and closing the CD drawer manually.

The sound is barely audible and can be heard when near the player. It can be heard while manully complete opening and closing of the CD drawer. It sounds as if a small piece is loose or something that hit the CD drawer during closing/opening. I do not hear it when it is 1/2 or 3/4 of the open position. It must be all the way or near complete open position. I think that important thing is I shouldn' hear any sound during these process, except the CD player initial read of the CD.

I am not sure what it is and if something is wrong. It seems to play CD without any problem.
Do you have know what is/ might this be from?
I would appreciate if anyone can share their thoughts on what this might be or having similar experience.
Thanks much in advance

Cyu.

You can hear the 'data tape' a strip of wires which connect to the lens,, by the nature of this connection between the lens (which is on the drawer) and the main board, (in the case) it has to go through a motion, a motion which you my friend can hear.

Otherwise you can hear the micro switch, a very small button which the drawer hits on the way in to tell the CDP to start scanning the disk.

either way, no problem.

Chill out, pour a glass and listen to your favorite CD.

On my old CD2 I could hear a similar noise. I had to open the case once to retrieve the puck, which flew off inside and I think, what you describe is probably just the micro switch or the ribbon inside the case.

Thanks all for the input. I am a first time NAIM owner and wasn't aware of this minor issue until now. It doesn't seem to compromise the sound at all, at least I am hoping that it isn't. How would one realize that there is something really is wrong in terms of sound qualith?

Garyi, I must say your concise and well put analysis really impressed me. Thanks Garyi, the NAIM Guru.

Herm, your help in refering to the other sites to read about it helped ease my concern and now I can think more about what music to buy, instead of thinking about this minor issue.

Anyway, in one of the past post, there is a discussion about opening the CD5 player. Not that I am want to do this, but how difficult is it and could it affect the sound ?

Thanks again
