Merz "Loveheart" 5* new al***

An old favourite of mine, I was delighted to find a promo of his latest cd at a recent record fair.
The album is released on Monday, and has already garnered The Independent album of the week, though Andy Gill could've been more generous as it truly deserves 5 stars.
It is a truly beautiful album full of very laid back heartfelt choons, with Conrad Lambert [Merz] playing almost all the instruments. Assured less is more production from Bruno Ellingham keeps the sound airy, open and truly hifi. When you're sick of your latest cd sounding like a bad mp3 rip give Merz a try.

Along with Laura Veirs "Year of Meteors" and the new Kate Bush, "Loveheart" vies for my album of the year - an album so very good and special you don't really want to tell ppl about it.

I read the review in the Indy with interest, seemed likely to be up my street. I've generally agreed with Andy Gill in the past. Are you aware of any samples to download from anywhere before I take a punt?

Agree re Laura Veirs too by the way. You might try the Iron and Wine EP's released this year 'The Woman King, and 'In The Reins'. The latter (a collaboration with Calexico) is partcularly good.

yeah that's where I was gonna send you.
I'm well into Iron and Wine AND Calexico, but haven't yet got round to their new joint project .
The new cd from Erin Mkeown "We Will Become Like Birds" is really excellent - but I've a feeling I'm preaching to the converted here lol.
