Kan Rewiring
Posted by: Ade Archer on 29 June 2002
I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but my dealer friend suggested that the pair of Linn Kans I have would benefit from being internally rewired with NACA5 if used in a Naim system. I had never really thought about this, but wondered if anyone had tried it and seen any benefits, or is it best to leave well alone. They are Kan 1's, i.e single binding posts, non biwireable
Cheers

I also have a set of early Kan1's with binding post. I recently replaced the scanspeak tweeters with the new lin neo models ( Feb 2002 ) I was thinking the same thing, and had a look when doing the tweeter. You would have to remove the B110 as well. It looked like it could be done, but would require alot of patience. There is not much room in there and A5 as you know is very stiff. The hairdryer would work to help with the bends but it would still test the patience of Jobe. In the end I figured it would I would not be doing it at this point. ( Was also thinking about removing the X-over ala Ron the Mon's suggestions.) Again, looked like too much trouble, unless I was going to go active in the future; while an interesting thought is not currently in the cards.
The internal wiring of the Kan's looks like HD appliance wire. It in itself if quite stiff and care had to be taken with both soldering and bending the wire as to not put strain on the solder joints.
Sorry I'm not too much help, just thought I would share what I have seen.....

I tried doing this when I took my Kan Is active. The problem is that A5 is just so stiff that every time I pushed the tweeter or bass driver into the box one of my newly soldered joints snapped or the tag on the back of the rear sockets broke off. I managed to finally get the drivers in with out breakage but for the 2nd speaker gave up and used some old A4.
If you can get hold of some A4 or maybe something similar this is probably a much easier and nearly as good sounding alternative.
