Michael Crichton RIP

One of my favourite authors. Died of cancer, aged only 66.
I know his books were frequently turned into crap movies, but he was one of the first authors that got me into reading books cover-to-cover.
I liked that most of his books were science-fiction, but based only fractionally in the future, as opposed to thousands of years ahead.
He rubbed a whole load of the USA congress up the wrong way when he dared question the Climate Change theory, even if he did only do it in a novel.
Time to find another author, sadly.
Matt.

I always enjoyed his books and some of the films of his books, also we enjoyed ER a
TV series he was involved in.

That's very sad & a great pity.

IMO he wrote some great stories and I always looked forward to his new books.

Very sad news indeed - great author and seemed to be a really interesting person too.

One of my favorite books is actually one of his (only?) non-fiction works - "Travels". It's just little vignettes from his life - med school, various travel stories, etc. Great read.

The last bit deteriorates a bit, but the first 2/3rd or so is wonderful.

Sad to hear indeed - I happened to pick up a 2nd hand copy of Prey in the West End just 2 weeks ago and polished it off it in a few days. Even though it got a bit silly towards the end it was a compelling read.
I always liked the Andromeda Strain a lot and its detached kind of style.

Andromeda Strain was one of the first sci fi books I read as a young person and I will never forget it. The movie wasn't half bad either.
