Lip-synch

Posted by: Rockingdoc on 21 October 2009

Using a Samsung 7000 TV with a Samsung BluRay player and Virgin cable, all HDMI connected. Audio output via optical socket on TV or on BDP to external DAC, then DAC analogue outs to hifi.

Lip-sync for audio from the DAC is poor for TV or BD. Is there anyway to manually alter lip-sync? Is the only solution to get an HDMI receiver and use analogue audio outputs from that, and is it guaranteed to sync?

Have you had problems all the time with Virgin. Just asking as for the last two weeks we've had quite a lot of problems on the TV side (V+ with an n-Vi doing the TV sound) ?

I'm still trying to understand it all. For years I have just used an analogue audio-out from the TV which had an analogue feed via SCART from the Virgin box. My new TV takes a digital feed (HDMI) and has no analogue audio-out.
Obviously the lip-synchronisation problems must be caused by differing delays in processing the digital signal by different components. I was hoping there might be some hidden menu somewhere that allowed the audio delay to be adjusted to match the visuals.

p.s. HMV added a load of BluRay discs to their sale yesterday, all priced at a fiver. I happened to be in the store as they were being priced-up, so got first go. I bought 12 really good films on BD for 60 quid.

I know deep in the menus of my sky hd box I can adjust the audio delay, not sure about the virgin box though.

Whats Lip -synch? Winker

A virgin box with proper lip-synch isn't to be sneezed at.

A company called Felston make a relatively (for NAIM users) inexpensive remote controlled digital-delay box called a DD740 to sort lip-sync problems. Keene electronics sell them in the UK.
