Suzuka GP

Anyone see it? If not, you missed the best race in years. Some stunning drives by the best 2 guys on the grid at the mo in Alonso and Raikkonen. Just wish Schuey had a more competetive car though.
I'll not give the result away in case anyone's taped it to watch later.

Top race - best of the year IMO in F1 terms.

The GP2 championship was rivetting by comparison though .........

Should all races do without qualifying and run back-to-front grids ?

Saturdays could become proving-grounds given that the race order has already been determined.

Get the points - accept the handicap. Might even hot up the championship !

Was at work so missed the A1 GP stuff. It's getting some good press at the moment, so good luck to it. A smart move to have the season in full swing while F1 takes it's break too. Should be plenty of wet weather races to look forward to...

Is Jenson Button the most overrated driver in Formula 1? I get so tired of hearing and reading about him being a "future world champion", when he's never won a F1 event. Frankly, he'll need Alonso, Raikkonen and Montoya (to name but three) to retire before he ever wins a race, let alone the championship.

Does he get any of this fawning admiration outside the UK?

I think the next two years are crucial for Jenson. Next year sees the introduction of the V8 engines which could see just one or two manufacturers steal an advantage. If next year isn't Honda's, then 2007 will be pretty much his final chance. There'll be some younger drivers nibbling at the heals of the 'old boys'!
He is a very good driver, IMO, but seems to need a perfect car, practice, qualy, race to do anything special.
Thankfully I'm no nationalist, otherwise I'd be very frustrated....
By the way, Sato and Villeneuve have been penalised for their behaviour on track.

we take bets on how long it will take one of the itv twats to come up with something like "and Jenson has a great chance of winning today". Sure, if half the field drops out.
Yesterday's was classic, "this season hasn't been up to Jenson's usual standards"!!! Really?

Couldn't agree more! I too am mystified by by the attention and admiration he gets. He is currently 9th in the drivers championship just 2 points ahead of Mark Webber in 10th, and never won a race in 98 starts, when everyone ahead of him has won. Hardly on the verge of greatness!

We'll see next year when he has a half decent team mate. I also hope Williams stuff it up him at each race after his contract antics over the last two years.

Might be an idea...This is how they run Stock Car racing and anyone who has attended a race will know that they are always exciting.

Only a good idea if they tackle the aero issues which make overtaking so difficult. Imagine having the back-to-front grid at Monaco-it would be just a procession behind the slowest car!

Also the ever popular Hungaroring!

Sundays race was a cracker. Go to an original fit to topography circuit like Suzuka,Spa, Brands,Watkins Glen,Road Atlanta etc you nearly always get good racing.
Although the FIA say they will tackle the aero issuses I suspect it will be another "fudge".

I suspect just banning all the stupid little wings that have sprung up all over the cars this year would work wonders, although the horns on the McLaren do give it that viking look.

Stolen from planetf1, with reference to Jenson's 100th GP this weekend:

"No F1 driver in history has ever hit the century mark without registering a win and gone on to win the World title. But hey, there's no pressure"

Tick tick tick tick....

The rumoured arrival of Porsche into F1 via the VW badge could certainly shake things up.

Monaco is a unique circuit and must remain as a testimony to the danger that befits high performance racing. It will be the results in the previous couple of races that will determine these "banker" points......

The Hungaroring could, and should, be redeveloped to allow more competitive racing.
