I've been getting into jazz a lot more of late - what are your recommended classics?

Where to start? There have been several other posts on this theme, but to help:
Duke Ellington - the Blanton-Webster Years, 3 CD compilation of some of the finest popular music from the last century (ymmv)
Count Basie - The Atomic Basie
Thelonious Monk - Monk's Music and Brilliant Corners
John Coltrane - Ballads, Crescent, My Favourite Things ... digest these and then go for Love Supreme
Miles Davis - anything with Gil Evans, lots of other stuff but so many different styles that it's difficult to say which would be best for you
That's spent a couple of quid for you - then you can seek out Art Pepper, Sonny Rollins, et al
Huw
PS - I'd also add Louis Armstrongs Hot 5s and 7s, but some of the above may be easier
PPS - There you go, Tam did the leg work

What have you got and enjoyed so far, Trilobyte? Jazz is many things to many people so if we get a feel for what you already like it could help us give you some more pointers.
