Can find Astral Weeks and Moondance and a few of the newies but bog all else. Are they been remastered and the old one's taken off the shelves?

Astral Weeks, Moondance and His Band have never been remastered - apparently he doesn't want to revisit them. Shame.

Is it a shame ? I don't know, his music is very emotive, and for sure intensely personal to him, reflecting where he was at that time. Maybe it's just too painful for him to go back, and at the end of the day to achieve what ? If the originals of those records don't stop you dead in your tracks, I doubt any amout of electronic jiggery pokery will help the situation.
Of course it could be nothing like that, maybe, the day the record company asked him about remastering, he just felt like f*cking them off, wouldn't put it past the old curmudgeon.

I wouldn't say that for certain as WB in the states remastered a whole heap of discs in the middle 80's without telling anyone. You know you have one if you look at the matrix number in the inner ring of an US WB disc. If they have either RE1 or RE2 they are remasters. In some cases like Jackson Browne there seems to be RE1 & RE2 discs out there. The RE2'S tend to be IMO a lot brighter sounding.

Diccus, they all seem to have been deleted in the UK. Van's own site tells you that you can still get Veedon Fleece but clicking on the buy button gets a failed search.
The news seems better in the US where some (but not all) are available try amazon.com. Even odder if you go to www.amazon.de you will also find most of the old stuff available.
The usual suspects wavelength, The Van Morrison Website (unofficial), Into The Music have no UK specific info either. So all in all a useless post
So I will leave you with a quote from The Van Morrison Website (Unofficial)
"Confirmation, now, that Van will not open for the [Rolling] Stones in Vancouver on their rescheduled date (November 25); Bonnie Raitt will now open instead." What did Vancouver do to deserve that?

I know nothing about them at all - and you might not like the prices!

edit - they link to Amazon.com so will probably be no good. They do have a sense of humour though:
"We are not responsible for comments posted by our users, as bitter and twisted as they may be. This is generally down to years of under funding and impossible requests made by people who secretly think that we should all be living on the moon by now because Space 1999 said so in the 70's!"

Diccus they are still available just click this link
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_nr_seeall_32/026-92106...rrison%2Ci%3Apopular
Though I notice most are used/new and not available from Amazon themselves. That appears the start of either a remaster or twofers or fourfers series.

Cheers all, Munch led Inspector Diccus closer to the scent and I think Ewemon may have something.
HMV have some of his 'missing' albums listed as 'Remastered' but deleted...................... but why?
Delete me Van

I believe but don't quote me that his next disc is coming out on the Manhattan/EMI label. I will give you 2 guesses as to what is coming next?

Last night I listened on some of my CD's with early Van.
The difference between the "original" 1980's CD's and later ones, labeled "remeatered", sonically seem to be mainly two. On the "remastered" ones there is clearly more treble and there seem to be more compression applied at the mastering of the "remastered" CD's.
Conclusion. The "remastered" CD's aren't better, just different.

Agreed re this. However I think if someone decent got a hold of the original tapes and flat transfered them then we would have decent sounding Van discs. I have quite a few of his sitting on my shelf that I haven't played in a long time.
