How many 3/401s do we know of? I have two LP12s, one is nearly 20 the other at least a teenager. Neither has ever failed.
And there's little point in a crap sounding, bad looking yet ultra reliable turntable. I have a Dual 505 that still works after 20 years, it doesn't really warrant either listening to or looking at though.

My LP12 is 20 next year, never had a problem with it. I just thought that gary was tempting fate...

what are you doing with that gasket-paper "mat" on your LP12? Kills the groove!
Although many of you have seen it before, here's a pic of my well-used (and well travelled) LP12...

It occurs to me that I don't know how old mine is.

My LP12 fine thanks, and I can’t see the thing going wrong any time soon! I’ve fully serviced it with new springs / grommets / oil / belt, so its good for ages. It only takes me a couple of hours to do, and only needs doing every couple of years. The bearing is immaculate with zero visible signs of wear, and my new DIY Geddon influenced PSU is bloody bomb proof to put it mildly. The deck is as stripped down as possible with no baseboard, cuing device, or armrest. All lift the performance nicely with their removal. This is a stunning sounding deck!
Tony.
PS The plinth is 1990, the Cirkus 1993, I don't know how old the Ittok is.

I,ve also removed the baseboard. I don't use the cueing device but it seems like too much trouble to remove it. As for the armrest - what do you do with the arm when the record is finished?

aargh, please stop this torture of showing me all these beautiful LP12's... I'm drooling all over my keyboard
Every time I look on Ebay.com or co.uk I see s/h LP12's for peanuts money. Here in Holland even a humble LP12/Akito combo shows up rarely and will cost about 1800,-euro/>1000,- UKP!
Man, it's hot outside! phew,I think I'll stay home this afternoon.
A bit of relaxing on my balcony, with the ven blowing some fresh air, and with some icecream/icetea in my hand. hmmm, that oughtta get me through the day
Greetings,
Alco

Yeah good point, Mark. I think they're just kinda old (and probably hardened).
I might try and locate some for the rebuild into the black plinth with Ekos soon. Its a non-fluted painted plinth (later model with corner braces) very kindly donated - beggars can't be choosers!
IIRC mine was originally built circa 1982. Kida like yer grandfather's cricket bat, really.

If you don’t use it remove it! It is a big improvement; definitely not the subtle kind that you have to think about. As for the armrest I just plonk it back when I’m not using the deck – I found a suitable spacer just to drop the top bit of the rest in and simply drop it back into the hole. There are pictures somewhere on the pfm forum.
You don’t have to do both mods, the cuing device is the bigger one by a large margin. This is honestly worth doing ASAP.
Tony.

Tony,
With your qualification I had to try it. I managed to find a microscopic allen key and removed the arm lift last night.
It was definitely worth the effort. Thanks.
My DIY PS is so bomb proof it occasionally trips a 35 amp MCB when I switch it on.

Email JW about feet. Big musical benefit, with added visual bonus will result. This you must do.

Crap pic, I've owned this same deck for about 14-15 years.

My LP12 is about 14 years old, so I don't think I'd say "they're always going wrong" - 14+ years is pretty good for most electronic components (note it's the Valhalla that's conked on mine).
I also noticed that, although my main PC (this one!) is okay, my work PC, my network hub, and my clock radio all blew a gasket at the same time as the Valhalla. Mains spike, or something, maybe?
In my experience, the LP12 is one of the most reliable pieces of kit you'll find and, to me, sounds far better than the Garrards that Mick prefers.
