Leema SPLX 10

Hi All,

I have just integrated a home cinema system into my Naim setup. After a few teething setup problems, we are all quite happy with the initial results.

Basically front channels are driven by Naim system via the pre-out of the Marantz 6003 receiver to NAC 252 unity gain. The centre and surround (KEF iQ60c and KHT 2005.3 respectively) are driven by the Marantz outputs. So far so good. The SUB is a Leema SPLX10 which has very deep bass (also driven from the pre-out of the Marantz), but I feel this is just way too much for what I need. I can't easily try this out to see how it integrates in with my 2-channel setup.

As far as the SUB setup goes, it was initially sat on a thick pile carpet. Now it is sat on a heavy slab of granite which seems to have done something, but really too early to make any conclusions. I was told that this would not really help that much. Better still would be to place the SUB at the listening positions and go around the room to find a place where it sounds best and then put it there. Will in any case re-run the Audyssey setup to see if this changes the results for SUB position/level etc.

There are also no reviews on this SUB or if there are could someone point me to some review. Someone that I know commented on the bass being a bit muddy and uncontrolled. Has anyone else such experiences ?

The current idea (which was also suggested by a friend) is that I can get a cheaper SUB that works just as well (at least for home cinema) and then use the rest of the money to buy a larger Samsung LED (46" instead of 40"). I would like to try this out in the 2-channel setup as well to help the SL2s in certain situations where they can grate the nerves a bit. Any suggestions on SUBs that have similar functionality and around the 400 euro range. I did think of REL because I know that Geoff P gets a good result with that in his system.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and suggestions

Regards

Can the Leema take high level inputs ? If so piggy back off the SL2 speaker terminals to feed the sub (just use ordinary 5 amp mains cable for this). Keep the Marantz feeding the sub for films and then select the high level inputs for music. Can it take presets - one advantage of the Naim n-Sub is that you can have 6 remote controlled presets to suit different modes - ie Music / Movies / Tv etc.

thanks for the reply. For most of what I listen to, I don't think the sub is a good way to 'enhance' the sound from 2-channel part of the system. Maybe I just want something a bit extra that SL2 does not provide. I ended up going for a B&W ASW 610 sub and this is more than enough for I need from home cinema.
