"AT AUCTION: ARGUABLY THE RAREST & MOST IMPORTANT ROCK 'N' ROLL AND POP-ART ARTIFACT IN THE WORLD"
Really? I think I'd argue!

That will buy a lot of Beef Burgers. Ridulous amount of cash. I had a look at the top bidders feedback and he seems to have never paid more than $87.00 for anything. I feel a bid retraction coming on. Either that or he is hoping that someone will outbid him. Now where is that Elvis Jailhouse Rock acetate?

oh my, how many hours of music can you buy on cd's with such an amount of money?!?

It's not really for the music - from my understanding they are pretty duff versions of songs from The Velvet Underground and Nico and you don't even get a banana for your dosh.
I know Mark Bolan's Midsummer Night's Scene goes for a more modest £6k and it is dire - badly recorded drivel. I love Marc's early music and there are many gems - Midsummer Night's Scene was not one. I know the song because it is on Nuggets II.
Again I understand this VU recording is a very scratchy acetate - personally if I'm going to listen to VU then my old albums will do me. BTW I understood John Cale had this acetate - is the sale genuine (I don't trust evil bay).

Could be a bargain if it comes with copyright licenses. Its the sort of thing that would sell to fans around the world in quite high volume. Especially as digitally remastering/declicking/dehissing etc is so easy now.

quote:Aural: VG- There is surface noise which is fairly consistent throught the LP. It is most dense during the first two tracks, but we are told by a friend that is handy with pro tools that getting rid of the surface noise throughout would be fairly easy.
The main flaws are a skip about 35 seconds into the first song (European son), & a skip about 10 seconds into the eighth song (I'm Waiting for the man). Digital trickery could be used to smooth out the skip on the 8th song fairly easily, but the skip on the first track may prove a bit more difficult.
Don't think much of his record gradings.
He/she's a bit picky on who bids as well.
$124,000+ now.

Big Brother, how about a Beatles acetate? I just don't think the VU were essential then or since. Each to their own. Actually I struggle with any piece of rock memorobilia that is worth $124,000, even if I had it spare!
