The Pink Floyd Experience

I like Pink Floyd. I don't love them, they are not my favorite group in the world, but I do enjoy their music and have several of their albums. I've never had the pleasure of seeing them live, although I wish I had. Way back when, I caught David Gilmour and Roger Waters on separate solo tours, performing mostly (but not exclusively) solo material (the Gilmour show was much better, by the way). I just received an e-mail notifying me that "The Pink Floyd Experience" will be playing in a local venue this Fall. I understand that this is a New Zealand-based band that attempts to recreate a Floyd concert (both sonically and, on a smaller scale, visually). So, my question (geared mainly at the big Floyd fans residing on this Forum) is should I check this show out? Has anyone ever seen The Pink Floyd Experience live? If so, does it sound like Floyd live, or just a poor imitation? The cost is fairly reasonable as concerts go these days, and it is a short drive away. I am tempted.
Thanks.

I've seen The Pink Floyd live a couple of times and enjoyed both concerts. The first was at Chelmsford Corn Exchange in 1967 and I can remember them playing a rather long improvisation, which I think became known as Reaction in G - it was just after they released
Piper At The Gates of Dawn, which is my favourite PF album by far, and
See Emily Play was in the hit parade.
The second time was at Knebworth and a very different show. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the show, it was just a shame that Pink wasn't well and stayed back at the hotel. Dave Gilmour on guitar - yes he is more polished, but he never captured the magic that Syd gave us. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the show, it was just a shame that Pink wasn't well and stayed back at the hotel.
So what do the Pink Floyd Experience create is it the magic of that early Pink Floyd Sound or is it the polish of Pink Floyd?

I would go and see, some of the tribute bands can really hold there own - I can't ever see the main four back on stage, they don't need the money! - unlike a lot of reformed hoofers recenly - ala Guns N Roses
Altough I did get to see Roger Waters at Wembley and Nick Mason came on for a song from the early days - Bliss

I have not seen PFE but have seen Think Floyd and The Aussie Pink Floyd Show are both a very good substite for the "real" thing.

Well Syd still gets his royalties, but he's no millionaire. I don't think he's interested in music anymore.

IMO PF (proper-Barrett or Gilmour or Waters or...) not post 'The Vinyl Cut'- in terms of imagination/creativity/music etc were about the best not Beatles-Who-Stones band ever and I saw them only on film in 1960s but listen to their stuff a lot now and still see strange pictures.

Well, I guess not many of us have experienced "The Pink Floyd Experience." I decided to take a chance and picked up tickets for a show in November. I certainly can think of worse ways to spend an evening ....

I saw a show on public TV that I thought was PF for several songs as I don't know what the originals look like. Then at pledge break they said it was from a group down under. I thought it looked like an entertaining evening so I'm sure you'll enjoy them. I saw PF do the Wall here in LA many years ago. It was pretty spectacular and I can vividly remember some of the staging and characters. And I've heard stories of other tours thru the LA area, one with ballon animals floating tethered above the stadium, where in the final songs they were gunned down and burst into flames to the gasps and awe of the crowd below. That kind of performance isn't EVER going to be repeated. But have fun at the Experience. Get your ya-yas out... oh wait that's another super group.
