DVD Writers.
Posted by: jasons on 09 June 2006
I am thinking of purchasing an internal DVD writer for my pc so that i can burn mp3's on to a dvd which i can play back in my car which has a player that plays mp3's.
So, the question is..
What the hell do i buy?????
I have browsed various web sites that sell these things but there are so many different types of dvd burner that record this format and that format but im not sure which one i need to do the above!!!!
Any help very much appreciated!
Cheers
Jason.

If its an internal one for your computer just get a combi CD/DVD burner at the fastest speed you can afford and with the right connectors for your computer.
Its your Software and car CD player which allow you to burn and ply MP3s not the burner persay.
I have used savastore very often they are well priced and deliver quick.

NEC drives are cheap enough and have always had a good reputation.
Plextor have a reputation as being the best, but the price matches that reputation.
Basically get something that does both +/- formats, Dual Layer, well I don't yet think I know one person who has every burned a Dual Layer DVD but most writers will do it.
Unless you have fairly recent CD/DVD burning software already, get a drive that comes with some bundled software as old software tends to not recognise newer drives without various updates that might not be available.
cheers,
Paul

You need to be sure that your car device can actually play a DVD with mp3s on. MP3 players (car or domestic) are (a) geared to playing CDs with MP3 files on and (b) are limited to the number of files/folders they will recognise on a CD.
I use Plextor DVD-writers largely because of the bundled PlexTools/Nero software.
If your car machine does truly play a DVD loaded to the gills with MP3 files, can you please let me know what it is. I want one!

Yes, I was assuming he meant he was going to buy a DVD burner for other things, I am not aware of a car player that does DVD MP3s, that would be a fair days musical drive haha.

If you download iTunes and put your music on there that will burn a MP3 Cd, that is still a heck of a lot of music.

a) preferably do not use car, as bad for everyone now/in future.
b) any £55 external USB 2.0 plug-in drive will do what you want.
c) any slightly cheaper internal/might take 9 hours to install drive should do what you want.
d)I have used 'self-burn' DVD for 3 years, and use .mp3 on DVD-self-recorded only as archive/backup.
e) as has been said, CDR-RWs full of e.g. mp3 are more reliable/IMO more cost-effective ...
