Unitiserve vs Mac Book Pro (+/- Apogee Duet)

Relevant kit: nv-i + NAP 200
Direction: hard-drive and beyond
I'm wondering about using a Mac Book Pro with Apogee Duet. Does anyone have direct experience of using this into an nv-i?
On the other hand, what about the Unitiserve? Would I need a sound card/DAC to connect direct to the nv-i or not?
And while I'm here, what are people's recommendations about NAS drives with the above?
