I'm sorry to hear this. He really was one of a kind and at least we can look forward to some good tributes to him. I guess he's the sort of guy that wouldn't be too bothered about dying. Not a fan of his music though, not my thing.

Agree with Rasher - I was/am not a fan, but he was unique and am sorry to hear this news.

I saw him in concert many years ago and had a very enjoyable evening even though I don't often listen to his sort of music at home. He joined everybody in the theatre bar afterwards and seemed to be be a thoroughly genuine, likeable bloke, happily joining in the banter and signing autographs while having a few bevvies.

Chaps
I have just returned from a couple of weeks in Spain where my TV is connected to Spanish channels only and I could not get onto the internet and English newspapers did not exist, so I lost track of what has been happening in the world.
I was deeply saddened to hear of George Mellys death. I have a few of his records and Cds and I just love his music.
I have lost count of his shows I have been to and he was a great chap to drink with afterwards. He could certainly shift the whisky.
He was a unique entertainer and certainly a one off and I for one will miss him.
Regards
Mick

George once asked Mick Jagger why his face was so wrinkled. "Laughter Lines" replied Jagger - "Nothing's that funny" quipped Melly.
I always admired his louche insousiance.
Bye Buy George!
