Several years back I was absolutely convinced Wossy was obsessed in trying to unseat Wogan - everything he did seemed to compete. Really glad that nightmare didn't come to fruition.
I detested his tv shows - nothing positive to say about it other than he got some good bands to close out the show - often better than Jools Holland managed to get on Later!
I didn't particularly like or dislike his Saturday morning radio show - he was much stronger on radio than tv and made to look relatively great by the truly awful stand in hosts when he was off on holiday. I'm hoping none of them grab that slot!!

Personally I haven't been able to listen to him for years. Just never took to him I suppose.

He seems a nice enough guy off air (or so I've heard) and I thought he was OK in the old days on Channel 4.
Seemed to get progressively more up himself on BBC. Interviews always become problematic when the interviewer thinks they are as much about them.
His Radio show was embarrassing, especially with some stooge paid to chuckle at every remark.
Nah. Sell by date...gone.

Was the Andrew Sachs thing really unforgiveable or was it just wrong?
I liked Jonathon Ross and I actually thought his interviews with film actors were very good.
I think the thing people really find unforgiveable is his salary

Both unforgivable & wrong
Interviews with film actors were OK & good some of the time because he had to appear serious in an extremely shallow subject.
His radio & TV problem was he thought he was funny - he has the same level of funny timing & skills as an amateur kindergarten party comedian.
His salary is the only thing he did really well, the BBC were the unforgivable part & stupid enough enough to agree that obscene rate. Good luck to him and his agent/mngt, wish I could get a slice of it.

The BBC are so good at ripping viewers off and spending it on trash TV, like Woss.
One of the main reasons i don't have a TV is because of the BBC.
Compare them to cable giants like Virgin who can supply the full package with broadband and phone line for £20.00 a month.

Probably because they don't actually make any programmes, they provide many more channels of crap too.

Yes they charge nearly twice as much, create no content in house, commission a small amount of crap from independents, make a lot of money from advertising and nearly all the good stuff that comes down the cable is on other channels. It's just as well you get phone and broadband as well, because if you look at what they provide that you can't get for nothing on freeview it doesn't amount to very much. Have you ever asked yourself what percentage of the content on smaller commercial channels was originally made or commissioned by the BBC? Commercial operators are almost as dependent on the licence fee as the BBC are. Take away the BBC and the licence and you'll see a very different media ecology in this country and I'm not sure you'll like it. I'm sure I won't.

Couldn't have put it better myself (in fact I didn't!)

We only get his TV show here in Canada and it blows chunks, it really does. I'm embarrassed when I tell people this is the flagship talk show in the UK.
To me Graham Norton is much funnier.
I would love to hear his radio show, I'm sure it's good. But then again I used to enjoy the Noel Edmunds radio show twenty years ago ...

For sure Stu. You're not his type!

Graham Norton is fun because you can see that he entertains his guests as much as the viewers and audience. You can often see the real person behind the personality.
With Ross I feel embarrassed for the guests, the professionals turn on the 'on view' persona and it's so plastic.
It's a shame to see that his show was axed. I just hope that he's as funny in the old Ross time slot. I suspect that he'll retune the act to make a much wider audience happy, thus diluting it down to mindless drivel ...

Well, I suppose we each have our own definition of drivel, I'd say that most TV and modern movies is drivel today. But remember, in Canada our media is not saturated by these personalities and so we don't get sick of them so quickly.
But as I said, in a pool of drivel, I'd rather see a guest's real personality emerge than their official face, which is frankly boring propaganda.
I do suspect, that this is not the real JR who appears on this show. His act has been formed to please the audience for that channel and time-slot.
I recall watching JR in the 90's and he's produced some good TV and radio. I assumed he evolved into a personality who doesn't interest me anymore, but it's probably his act ...

Norton "fun", that is not funny
Right on Munch
My vote goes to replace both with Rick Wakeman & Billy Brag

Each to their own fellas. Now Norman Wisdom, he made me laugh :-D
Posted on: 19 January 2010 by Mike-B
Agreed Norman Wisdom was a hoot, one of the best but needed vision. Did u ever see "The Plank", a classic with a BIG C.
I was brung up on the Goon Show when the need for your own imagination & radio has probably never been surpassed
Subsequently natural progression connected me to M.P. & its like straight off
Best stage (live - not TV) comedian I ever saw was Tommy Cooper, he made me hurt with laughter.

Robin Williams made you laugh? When was that? And what had you been smoking?
