Vinyl Help

Posted by: NM99 on 08 May 2006

This might make me sound like a heretic but I have a problem.
I have inherited a big collection of Vinyl from a relative. Unfortunately I don't have a turntable as my Naim system is CD based. Some of the LPs are very very old and if I had the funds and the patience I would buy and set up a turntable. However I don't and I will sell the entire collection to fund more CDs and upgrade my Naim system.
Is there a decent website I can use to value the collection and/or maybe sell it on ?
Who knows maybe one or two of them might be worth so much that I could sell them to fund the purchase of a decent turntable and thus keep most of the collection. Thanks

I used to use the Rare Record Guide from Record Collector which is available at all good book shops. I don't think Record Collector prints the guide on-line. However, eBay has distorted matters slightly. Also you can often see people trying to sell records on Amazon. That said, I've never sold a record, as the only ones I have that I would want to lose I doubt I could give away.

NM99,

You could try sending a PM to Tony L @ pinkfish. He deals in records...but has always come across as a decent chap. He can probably give you some good advice.

I'm sorry to dissent.
I would take it easy and give all those LPs a chance.

Seconded.

It's important to bear in mind that, however old the record, it's only likely to be of interest to a collector if in reasonably good nick, and that the vast majority of records are of zero interest to collectors. Tony L knows his stuff and is (in my experience) helpful and friendly. If he can't help personally, he'll be able to point you in the direction of someone who can.

depending what they are and condition, I might take them off your hands
