How old were you when you bought your first Naim???
As near as I am concerned, I bought myself a Nait3 2 years ago as I was 20 y.o.
6 months later, I had got a cd3.5/nac92/Hicap/Nap140 and today I have got CDX/Nac102/Supercap/Nap180.

My french is rusty: does this mean you believe the 92 to be punchier and more rythmic than a 72?
If I understand you correctly, you surely hear things differently than I do.
A 72 is better musically but far harsher on most source material than a 92. OTOH, comparing a 92/hi to a 72/hi is pretty easy - the 72/hi wins on all counts - PR&T, frequency extension, distortion, midrange accuracy, tonality, dynamics, musicality - whatever criterion you want to use, the 72 will win in 99 times out of 100.

Used Nait 1 in 1992. So I would have been 28.

Khoi,
Well, I rate the 72/hi as a lot sweeter than a 92/hi. The 72/hi can be absolutely ravishing with Romantic orchestral stuff. The higher notes just sing on some recordings, and the music is so beautiful that the beauty can't be ignored, which is what I mean by sweetness. (I hope and trust the singing/beauty occurs because that's what the composer/conductor/performers want!)
You either have to listen for yourself, or take the plunge on faith. If you take a plunge with used equipment, your probably won't waste a lot of money, unless you trade with Parry or Lonorgan, both of whom appear to bargain very effectively! (This is not meant as a criticism of either Mick or Tony).
Regards.

Khoi,
If saving $ is important a used 72 would be an excellent choice. If your budget can stretch, a used 112 might be better in the long run.
But for value/money/music a 72 is hard to beat.

I must have been about 20 when I bought my NAIT-1.
About six years later I had LP12/Ekos/Lingo, 52 & six-pack & Isobariks. I think the bug bit very hard!
Apart from replacing the Lingo with an Armageddon, things stayed pretty static for about six years, until I started working my way up the Naim CDP ladder (and then the speakers).
Now Naim start taunting me with 500's, 552's and God knows what else. Well at least the NAP500 isn't too far out of reach, with 6x 135s to sell off.
cheers, Martin

If $ (sorry Euro) is a problem, find a 32.5 updated to 72 (729 boards), can be found for very cheap.
IMHO it sounds better than a 92: more punch, more timing, sweeter highs.

Salutations,
Steve.

le 92 et trop faible pour un 140????
This sentence was probably written by someone who never heard a 92/140.
I'd take a 92/140 over a 72/140 ANY day of the week, unless I was sure that everything I listened to was a top class recording (which disqualifies most of what I listen to).
It's nice to have a 52, but the low end of the Naim line of electronics is quite good in its own right. I used to listen to equipment when i had a 62. I was constantly amazed at how much more I enjoyed my 62/140 than the mega-buck Classe, ARC, Krell, ML.
Regards. Phil
