LCD TV : Sharp, Sony or Samsung?

Posted by: Jagdeep on 29 October 2006

Guys, I am thinking of going flat panel.
Size of TV i'm looking for at 37" to 45"
Focus is on 40"

Which should I consider.
All are first class manufaturers.

Sharp make their own and have a reputation as being the best LCD manufacturers from day 1.

Sony's are made by Samsung but fitted with a Bravia Engine and

Samsung are a leading manufacturer

Any advise guys?
76% used as TV and the rest for watching DVD's
This purchase would justify the purchase of a better DVD player. This will be step 2.

Well, not seen a Samsung.

HAVE seen Sony sets, pretty much always looking ghastly.

Seen a few Sharp sets looking ropey too... BUT have seen what the Sharps are capable of when properly set up - and based on that I would buy one.

Their current 768 line panels seem to create an almost holographic image from conventional TV (using a decent STB, or from Sky/cable), but when fed prog scan DVD the sets I saw just came alive.

My money's being held back for one of their new 1080P compliant sets... but if it's as good as what I've already seen then it'll be a quick decision.

Of course, it's entirely possible that a well set up Sony might be just as good... but seing as everywhere I find them they seem to be on factory default settings I'm far more inclined to support the dealer who goes to the effort of showing me what a set can do.

I reckon you should find a good dealer who can show you the best either screen can offer for your specific viewing habits - should be easy after that Smile

I have a Sharp Aquos 27" LCD and am happy with it. It is easy to set up and has removeable speakers. LCD's seem to be at their weakest on fast moving action so try and get a good demo.

Even the wife preferred it to the Philips 28" CRT it replaced!

Have you posted this question on AV Forums?

Over there you will get a far bigger response than on here, for )soz)obvious reasons.

I just got my folks to get a Tosh 32" LCD (32wlt68) - fabulous picture off Sky+, and also very good via component from their Tosh DVD player, too.

The most astounding thing tho is the built in Freeview - amazing picture compared to analogue...
