Dvorak, serenades for strings in E major and D minor

Does anybody have an excellent recommendation for these pieces of Dvorak (whom I tend to like)? Especially, I would like a good version of the E major.

About twenty years ago I bought the set of both on the Serenades on Philips with the ASMF conducted by Neville Marriner, which is splendid in every way. Of the E Major (String) Serenade, I also have the set (in Mono) conducted by Vaclav Talich which is very special indeed, and the old recording is acceptable, on Supraphon.

All the best from Fredrik

I will go for the Marriner set. The set conducted by Talich I didn't manage to find, but maybe it will be available again in some years...

Talich recorded both of them, but in twenty years I have only been able to get the string serenade. I am still waiting for the wind and string one to come along again! All the best from fredrik

PS: Is it very cold in Oslo at the moment - say -10 or -15 degrees Celcius? I love the cold in winter and find Englands murky dampness, quite depressing!

In Oslo it has been a bit gray in January, around 0 degrees, and not so much snow. It's not so often we have temperatures below -10 degrees here (after Christmas there was a one week period with these temperatures). When I was in Trondheim in Christmas I had lots of snow and -10 degrees + blue sky. That was really beautiful, and gives you the true Christmas feeling! However, sadly I didn't do any skiing, and in Oslo at the moment there are not good conditions for skiing at the moment. I spent the New Years Eve in Cracow where my wife comes from and there was a lot of snow there (almost as much as in Trondheim). Really nice. Here in is Oslo it is in fact snowing a bit now, but there has not been much this winter.
